NDDOT Starting Salary: $5,170 per month

Summary of Work


Highway & Roadway Maintenance

  • Operating equipment to keep the roads clear of snow/ice, roadway maintenance such as crack sealing, roadway sealing, and other minor road repairs. It also includes mowing ditches, weed-eating around signs, and clearing out culverts. Additionally, it includes flagging and work zone signing to keep the public and workers safe.

Building Specialist Lead

  • Crew leader for the construction of building and concrete work. Coordinate orders, bidding of materials, contractors, and site preparation and work.

Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance

  • Performing minor preventative and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment, such as greasing, oil, and filter changes. Perform minor repairs.

Highway Construction Duties

  • Receive training and perform the following construction project duties under close supervision: materials testing, construction surveys, and minor construction inspections. Complete diaries and inspection reports.

Building and Ground Maintenance Lead

  • Maintain district headquarters buildings and grounds.
  • Organize crews to do large building and grounds projects.
  • Maintenance and general oversight of rest areas.

Information Technology Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment, including cleaning of lenses of roadway weather information equipment.

Recordkeeping

  • Keeping logs of daily work hours on equipment, timesheets, vehicle use, and materials usage. Update road conditions map.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Or high school diploma or GED and three years of work experience with heavy equipment operations, highway maintenance or construction-related work.
  • Two years of college coursework in engineering, heavy equipment operation or maintenance may substitute for up to two years of the work experience requirement.
  • Work on night shift may be required. Work on weekends, and holidays during emergency events. Will be at times required to report to work within 30 minutes during emergency or storm situations.
  • Previous experience in safely operating equipment such as tractors with attachments, farm trucks, etc. preferred.
  • Requires a Class A driver’s license with air brakes and a cargo tanker endorsement.
  • Requires two years work experience at the Equipment Operator II level.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check and driving records check with current and previous employers within the past three years.
