Job Description

The McHenry County Public Health Department has an opening for a Full Time Epidemiologist in their office. This position is responsible for studying and analyzing the distribution and determinants of health related states or events in specified populations. This position also works closely with all Health Department Divisions and is responsible for all aspects related to data analysis including literary research, data collection, preparation, presentation, statistical analysis and report preparation.

This position also requires on-call availability.

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as a resource for technical information and responds to requests for data from other Department programs or divisions, community health partners, organizations, the media, or the public.
  • Directs and conducts a full range of investigation activities for needs assessments, communicable and chronic diseases, behavioral health and substance use, foodborne illness, and potential or actual acts of terrorism.
  • Plans, implements, monitors and analyzes surveillance systems for all hazards planning, reportable diseases, other communicable diseases, environmental risk factors, veterinary indicators, injuries, behavioral risk factors and syndromic indicators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in epidemiological and statistical analysis; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Mathematics or other quantitative field; and a

Proof of being fully vaccinated or have either one dose of a two-dose COVID vaccination series (Pfizer or Moderna) or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson series prior to start date. For those with only one dose of a two-dose series, potential employees must receive the second dose within 30 days of starting employment. Failure to complete the series is automatic termination. In addition, proof of all vaccines are mandatory for employment with the Health Dept., including the Flu vaccine.
