The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.

This Environmental Sustainability Analyst or Environmental Public Health Analyst II position implements DEN’s sustainability and environmental programs for operational compliance and contributes to their continuous improvement. Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Facilitates and coordinates program implementation with numerous and diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implements multiple aspects of DEN’s multimedia compliance assistance program (MCAP), including conducting research and analysis to establishing environmental requirements, reviewing conditions for compliance with established requirements, distinguishing findings as strengths, adequacies, and deficiencies, providing technical assistance, and influencing positive environmental outcomes
  • Utilizes and directs Denver’s contracted laboratory to perform work. Manages task authorizations and expenditures consistent with DEN procedures.
  • Develops a working understanding of technical areas assigned to other team members, including CAA, RCRA, UST, SPCC, as enable completion of assigned duties related to DEN’s MCAP.
  • Maintains established sampling programs for stormwater and wastewater and develops a sampling program for water cabinets, including sampling and analysis plans and QA/QC requirements
  • Serves as a SME on environmental aspects of DEN’s operations. Contributes expertise to DEN’s sustainability and environmental programs including an Environmental Management System (EMS) that is certified to ISO Standard 14001:2105.
  • Contributes scientific and regulatory expertise in assigned technical areas, including industrial stormwater, industrial wastewater, and MS4
  • Develops and provides technical assistance, education and training on complex multidisciplinary technical and regulatory issues.
About You
We are looking for candidates with some or all the following experience:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to and learn from diverse audiences
  • Direct experience with requirements applicable to the position, such as industrial stormwater, industrial wastewater, and MS4
  • A proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and function in various roles across large and diverse teams
  • Demonstrated ability to use scientific and interpersonal skills to identify environmental issues, formulate and recommend actions, and influence positive environmental outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization from field personnel to management
  • Results-oriented, self-driven to contribute to a high performing team
  • Project management experience sufficient to be able to coordinate assigned projects, establish schedules, identify proper sequence, identify scope and manage budget, and produce adequate documentation.
  • Experience adapting to setbacks and changes in work assignments and ways of doing work
  • A readiness to strengthen a positive and respectful organizational culture
  • Knowledge of the principles and theories of the social, physical and biological sciences sufficient to be able to investigate, monitor and protect the environment.

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, or in a related field based on a specific position.
  • Experience Equivalency: One (1) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience conducting research and analysis on a variety of environmental or public health issues or conducting environmental or public health inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
