Job Summary
The Division of Risk Management and Safety seeks candidates for an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support the AU Partnership with Fort Benning. This is an exciting opportunity to help support the Fort Benning environmental compliance program! The role provides compliance inspection, training, and consultation to the Fort Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence in the following specialized areas: 1. Regulated Waste Management; 2. Hazardous Materials Management; 3. Underground Storage Tanks (UST); 4. Above ground Storage Tanks (AST) and SPCC; 5. Title V Air Permit; and 6. Stormwater/NPDES. This position will also perform spill response duties as part of the Fort Benning Spill Response Team. .

Essential Functions
  • Serves as the U.S. Army Fort Benning Maneuver of Excellence Staff Inspection Program (MCoE SIP) inspector, providing compliance-orientated feedback on applicable functional areas, identifying deficiencies, and bringing respective Fort Benning units environmental programs to standard.
  • Conducts inspections for Hazardous Waste generating areas at Ft. Benning to ensure compliance with RCRA.
  • Designs, conducts, and coordinates training and education in areas of specialization.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate and provide support for hazmat spill emergency response.
  • Provides technical guidance in relation to regulated waste to include RCRA hazardous waste, universal waste, and other special wastes.
  • Performs inspections and assessments of the Fort Benning UST, AST, SPCC, Title V, Pollution Prevention (P2), MS4 and NPDES compliance.
  • Reviews and provides guidance in multi-media areas related to Ft. Benning Environmental Management Division.
  • Analyze data to provide interpretations of waste analysis and waste characterizations.
  • Recommends actions and solutions for resolving/preventing violations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Level I Bachelor’s degree
Level II Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.
Level III Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.
Substitutions allowed for Education:
8 years of experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
Graduate degrees accepted in lieu of experience requirement for advanced levels, at the rate of 1 year of relevant education per year of required experience.
