The Blue Oval SK, Environmental Engineer (GSR), is a unique position at a Greenfield site. This position is a Ford Motor Company position supporting the Blue Oval SK Joint Venture. As a Ford Motor Company Secondee, you will provide environmental compliance, oversite, and consultation during the site clearing, site construction, manufacturing engineering launch, and initial production operation. This position will report to the Ford Environmental Quality Office (EQO) Regional Manager and matrix report to the BOSK Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) Manager.

During construction and commissioning, the BOSK Environmental Engineer will interface with internal and external partners depending on the project phase and required activities. The Environmental Engineer's role will alter to keep up with the project demands as the various construction and launch milestones are completed. Oversight activities may require alternative work schedules to support facility construction and commissioning activities.

You will play a key role in ensuring facility environmental compliance and implementing the highest standards of environmental stewardship. The Environmental Engineer is responsible for activities such as partnering with Ford Land Construction, and Field Safety Resources to monitor and ensure environmental compliance and contractor safety during all phases of facility construction; supporting and providing environmental guidance to the manufacturing engineering launch team; developing and implementing the BOSK Environmental Operating System based upon the Ford Safety and Environmental Operating System; and working with facility personnel and Federal, State, and local agencies to comply with environmental requirements. Additional responsibilities are identified below.


You'll have:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
  • Graduate/Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Five or more years working in a manufacturing facility
  • Functional knowledge and experience with environmental regulations

You'll do:

Site Clearing & Construction Activities:

  • Appropriately manage any spill or release incidents, including required notifications, to minimize the impact on the environment and potential liability to Ford
  • Oversee proper disposal of all construction and equipment commissioning-related wastes through an approved Total Waste Management (TWM) supplier. Maintain all appropriate records and complete agency reports as needed.
  • Partner with the Ford Land Project Manager(s) in the oversite of the on-site activities to ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements and facility permits
  • Provide support and oversite into the completion of facilities equipment commissioning
  • Lead appropriate sampling, oversite, and reporting requirements for environmental permits, including construction stormwater, US Army Corps 404, and federal air permits

Site Specific Launch Support Activities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the Training Management System specific to Environmental Awareness and Compliance
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Total Waste Management (TWM) program to ensure legal compliance for all waste disposal with an emphasis on waste elimination, recycling, and zero waste to landfill principles
  • Establish BOSK environmental sustainability goals, annual targets, and action plans
  • Design, implement, and maintain a BOSK Environmental Operating System based upon the Ford Environmental Operating System
  • Design, implement and support a BOSK Material Management System (MMS) based on the Ford Material Management System
  • Build a highly effective and competent environmental support team
  • Provide environmental support and guidance to manufacturing engineering design team
  • Create, implement, and revise environmental management procedures
  • Support implementation of Job Plans specific to environmental requirements and the Environmental Operating System

Production Operation Activities:

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable national, regional, and local environmental requirements
  • Effectively use standard procedures and best practices to ensure facility/manufacturing environmental compliance
  • Provide day-to-day technical and regulatory support for all environmental media/operational subjects (air, water, wastewater, waste tanks, materials, ISO 14001, permitting, regulatory communications, testing, plant audits, spill response, decommissioning, remediation, etc.)
  • Develop accurate and complete correspondence (reports, permit applications, etc.) to support facility/manufacturing environmental compliance
  • Monitor and regularly report on environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and drive continuous improvement
  • Represent BOSK’s interests in environmental matters through interaction with external entities (local, regional, and national regulatory agencies, community groups, trade, and professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc.)
  • Support facility and product programs through necessary permit actions, capacity planning studies, and environmental project funding requests
  • Build strong, productive working relationships with HSE professionals and facility team
  • Support achievement of the BOSK business plan and sustainability objectives and targets
  • Provide required environmental awareness and compliance training to plant employees
  • Manage Total Waste Management activities ensuring waste is managed, stored, and disposed of according to regulatory and corporate environmental requirements.
