Job Description

Brown and Caldwell has an exciting job opportunity for a self-motivated junior engineer to join our Florida team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office with a diverse technical staff of geologists, engineers, and scientists. The selected candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, local, and nationally recognized, senior staff working on a variety of environmental-related projects.

Detailed Description:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Duties also include field activities and site investigations
  • Assist with hydraulic modeling for stormwater, potable water, and wastewater.
  • Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
  • Participate in and adhere to BC’s QA/QC process
  • Work on a variety of environmental engineering projects with an emphasis on water and wastewater facilities, and conveyance/distribution systems
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing
  • Assist with project management-related tasks for various engineering design projects
  • Develop an understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for Florida and the State of Florida
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Successfully deliver assignments on time and on budget
  • Conduct engineering evaluations, execute design calculations, and prepare reports, plans, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineering staff
  • Assist with studies and alternative analysis
  • Assist with the development of permitting plans and permit applications

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures.
  • Excellent technical writing capabilities are required.
  • Candidates should have a strong desire for and be motivated to obtain a Fundamentals of Engineering certification, followed by the Registered Professional Engineer licensure or equivalent licensure within 3-5 years.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering (or related) required, M.S. preferred
  • Field assignments require the ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • Experience using hydraulic modeling software preferred
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction operations (i.e. pouring concrete).
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, results-oriented, reliable, and able to work well with a wide variety of coworkers and subcontractors.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification a plus.
  • Must be willing to work in the field periodically.
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD, MATLAB) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Ability to climb or descend stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 feet typically) to access structures for visual inspection
  • Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance required
  • Ability to complete required health & safety training and wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel-toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
  • Must be proficient in using standard computer programs (MS Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with MS Project, MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, a plus

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending on skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $55,000 - $75,000
