About Pinyon Pinyon was established in 1993 by president and CEO, Lauren Evans, PE, and over the past 29 years she has grown Pinyon from a one-woman outfit based out of her garage, to a thriving, employee-owned environmental consulting firm. The firm now employs approximately 80 environmental professionals and support personnel and has expanded from headquarters in Lakewood, Colorado (near Denver) to include branch offices in Loveland and Colorado Springs, Colorado, as well as satellite offices in Phoenix, Arizona and Bozeman, Montana. Pinyon is a client-centric environmental consulting firm that works towards collaborative solutions to advance our clients' needs while protecting environmental health and safety. Pinyon supports private and public sector projects for commercial and industrial, energy, public works, federal, and transportation clients. Pinyon is committed to continuing to expand our portfolio of projects both in our current geographies and elsewhere in the Rocky Mountain West. Position Summary This position involves providing support for several technical service areas and will be based out of Pinyon's Lakewood, Colorado office. Some travel to western states may also be required. Candidates must be interested in performing a variety of tasks, which may include tasks such as completing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); soil logging during the completion of soil borings/groundwater monitoring well installation; collection of soil and groundwater samples; oversight and inspection of construction activities (from both a regulatory compliance and environmental impact perspective); use monitoring equipment to assess worker exposure to hazards in various environments; civil design/drafting; and writing technical reports summarizing field investigations. The specific responsibilities of this position will, in part, be determined by the knowledge, experience, and interests of the candidate. Responsibilities are not limited to those stated in the above list and the candidate may not be required to perform all responsibilities stated in the above list. Training (internal or external) will be provided as required by the task and individual experience. Essential Responsibilities Essential responsibilities will be based on past experience, educational background, and current project needs and may include: Plan, execute, analyze, and report on site investigations. Conduct oversight for a variety of projects, and utilize Stop Work Authority when necessary, including when impacted soils and/or potential asbestos-containing materials are encountered. Conduct Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Preliminary Investigation, Remedial Investigations, and Environmental audits. Conduct inspections at construction sites to ensure that applicable regulations are adhered to. Use field monitoring equipment to assess hazards in various work environments. Understand, interpret, and apply regulations. Communicate effectively throughout the project lifecycle; proactively responds to internal and external client requests. Perform field tasks, such as soil logging, preparation of boring logs, monitoring well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, ground elevation surveys, construction inspections, etc., with minimal supervision. Apply knowledge of natural sciences (geology, soil characteristics, chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations. Apply standard field practices and techniques in specific situations. Drive company, rental, or personal vehicles (mileage will be reimbursed per project rates) to report to job sites, sample delivery, etc. Maintain project documents and records in an organized and easily understood fashion. May manage the work of subcontractors, sub-consultants, vendors, etc., in conformance with the written scope of work and associated agreements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Industrial Hygiene, Geologic Engineering, Civil Engineering, GeoScience or similar field. Education and work experience can be substituted for a completed degree. 0 to 6 years of experience in any combination of Environmental Remediation, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Regulatory Compliance. Ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles when work does not go according to plan. Completion of 40-hour OSHA training is preferred but not required; however, the expectation is that the candidate will complete training as required. Applicant must be willing to take on tasks that are outside of their area of study or professional experience and be eager to cross-train in multiple environmental disciplines to gain a wide-ranging skill set. Familiarity with the following is beneficial, but not required: State environmental regulations: Arizona, Colorado, North Dakota, Wyoming Phase I and Phase II ESAs, subsurface investigations, site characterization, borehole logging, monitoring well construction, soil and/or groundwater sampling. Asbestos/Lead paint building inspections and Colorado asbestos in soil regulations and processes Worker hazard exposure monitoring (indoor air and noise monitoring) Environmental monitoring during construction GIS and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D software Stormwater inspections - completion of CDOT Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor (TECS) Certification Stormwater, Wastewater, and/or Dewatering permitting Standard or advanced Health and Safety protocol NRPP Radon Measurement Professional certification Candidates should have the capacity to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather, extended workdays or work weeks may be required. Ability to work independently or in a group. Effective communication skills (verbal and written) are required and strong technical writing skills are strongly desired.
