The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory also has an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations around the globe. We are dedicated solely to the support of the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, a wholly own a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
The Shipboard IT organization is seeking entry level software developers to join our growing software development?team. As a software developer, you will be part of a diverse team that creates applications?installed onboard Navy submarines and aircraft carriers. You will play a primary role in the research, design, development, and lifecycle management of these applications, while working to develop innovative future solutions. The organization fosters an environment and culture where collaboration and mentoring is regularly practiced.
Some of the knowledge and experience you will gain in this role includes, but is not limited to:
- Publication of software documentation, including design, technical specification, and end-user documentation.
- Developing high quality code adhering to cybersecurity principles,
- Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, and
- Performing unit testing,

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Skills
- Development experience with C#, Java, or other programming languages.
- Knowledge of software engineering practices and software lifecycle models.
- Experience in automating tasks using a scripting language.
- Experience in developing automated unit tests.
- Experience in developing and deploying services in a Microsoft Operating System environment.
- Familiarity with database architectures.
