WestRock Lynchburg, VA . is seeking Production Laborer (Entry Level Operations Position) at Lynchburg, VA. Mill. This position is entry level, and the right candidate will be taught skills needed to be successful. The Entry Level role will be basic entry level jobs operating mobile equipment in various departments within the mill, requiring training on multiple pieces of equipment and multiple processes. Work assignments will be based on labor needs for the Mill and will be used to fill in for vacancies caused by vacancies, leave of absence, training, project assignments, labor intensive products or projects, etc.

Schedule: Rotating Shift 8-hour shifts (7:00AM or 3:00PM or 11:00PM)

Pay Rate: $17.34 with an increase to $17.61 after 30 days.

Basic functions: The production areas of the mill include our Paper Machine and Shipping Departments. The positions are there to assist other workers in the operations of the mill.

How You Will Impact WestRock

• Perform various housekeeping, cleaning, and organizing functions with minimal supervision to ensure areas are clean and free from debris.
• Operate equipment for Roll finishing (banding, wrapping, labeling, sorting).
• Prioritize work and take appropriate action to ensure all areas remain operational.
• Perform all work assignments in various areas and departments of the mill professionally that complies with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Follow all site safety requirements and procedures.

Essential functions within the production areas will include but not limited to:

Secondary Fiber Department

• Clean conveyor area around the Guillotine, around scale and under and beside 16', 18' and 20' conveyors.
• Assisting the Assistant Operator to remove broken tails from pulper.
• Operate clamp truck to feed bales of OCC and mixed waste to filler conveyor
• Use a Band cutter to cut wire if Guillotine shuts down or if wire does not get cut in with Guillotine or pegs.

Paper Machine Department

• Prepares parent reel for threading through rewinder and threads tail through lead in roll and slitter station
• Maintain supply of cores at core area by collecting them from the core staging area and placing them in a rolling bin to push them to the lowerator .
• Aids third hand in cutting tail and taping ends to cores.
• Helps in cutting samples for Backtender of each parent reel

Shipping Department

• Put propane on fork truck as needed.
• Carry boxed of tape downstairs to roll wrap area.
• Manually move rolls if conveyor belt stretches do not work properly.
• Operate Spear Truck and fork truck to move rolls from roll station /wrapper station to 9 points, truck docks, bays and warehouse or trailer.

What You Need To Succeed

• Be able to work rotating shift work on a southern swing rotation . Our 8-hour shifts (7:00AM or 3:00PM or 11:00PM)
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to pass a background check and physical
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment
• 1-3 years of Industrial or Manufacturing experience
