Job Description
Purpose/Summary


  • Manages value stream resources to support daily manufacturing support as well as programmed growth and continuous improvement initiatives.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities


Responsibilities shall include but not limited to:


  • Develops manufacturing area layouts and manages equipment and facility documentation to include electrical and mechanical "as built" prints & PLC programs.
  • Effectively communicates with internal/external Akebono personnel.
  • Support the development and maintenance of APQP documentation.
  • Responsible for Engineering staff development and Succession Planning
  • Responsible for equipment capacity analysis.
  • Participates in the development of staffing plan and labor budgets for their value stream.
  • Develops and controls Manufacturing Engineering departmental budgets for their value stream.
  • Support quotation process for manufacturing process, capital, tooling, and manning impact of product changes
  • Develops capital expenditure request and controls capital project expenditures.
  • Must possess the ability to employ appropriate project management tools.
  • Coordinates manufacturing engineering activities concerned with development and procurement of production equipment that meets Akebono’s requirements in terms of quality, mistake proofing, production rates and product specification.
  • Oversees the commissioning of production equipment ensuring safety sign-off are completed, quality levels are maintained, all product specifications are met, and customer expectations are exceeded during product/process launches.
  • Ability to professionally interface with customers, suppliers and contractors.
  • Support the development of preventative maintenance programs for the value stream and all equipment.
  • Oversees testing of newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures Safety Risk Assessments are completed on new or modified equipment.
  • Plans and formulates aspects of program development and implementation including costs projections, equipment specification and purchasing, reporting and human resource requirements.
  • May be required to train others.
  • Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from department budget.
  • Develops and controls continuous improvement plans for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to provide and present comprehensive reports.
  • Supports and participates in Akebono Production System projects as required.
  • Evaluates business case feasibility and provides input for future business case development.
  • Supports development of process training documentation and plans for the manufacturing departments.


Education And/or Experience (minimum Required For The Position)


  • BS in Engineering related field of study.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience supervising individuals working in the Engineering field.
  • Experience in capital budgeting, departmental budgeting, business case development, and costing for sales quotes preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ work-related experience in an industrial environment.


Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


  • Strong equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Will act as a knowledge resource and guide for less experienced engineers.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming for the purpose of trouble shooting process development.
  • Experience with high volume operations.
  • Able to coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Systems and Methods in Manufacturing.
  • Able to work with others in a team environment to achieve a common goal.
  • Proficiency with P.C. based software.
  • Experience with designing part fixtures and tooling.
  • Proficient with MS Office products.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, solid modeling software is a requirement and AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Experience in automotive industry, preferred.
