The Public Works Engineering Division has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced and highly skilled Engineering Project Manager to join our dynamic and innovative capital projects team. This position will provide project management services for capital projects including: complete streets projects, arterial road projects, active transportation projects, facility projects, trail projects, bridge projects and other projects as needed.


The Engineering Division currently manages over 70 multi-faceted capital projects. Many projects are grant funded and must be delivered to meet grant funding timelines and requirements. Project Management within the Engineering Division includes management of multiple funding sources and budgets, project partnerships, consultant procurement and management, project permitting, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, project advertisement, status reporting, and delivery to meet project milestones. The Engineering Project Manager works closely with Public Works in-house design and construction management teams as well as other City departments. Public outreach and stakeholder communications are critical components to the success of these projects.

Essential Duties


  • Prepares stakeholder correspondence and project website updates; leads public outreach and stakeholder communications.
  • Manages the scope, schedule and budget for assigned capital projects; develops and executes project strategy; coordinates with internal and external entities; leads the project team.
  • Manages and prepares project specifications; reviews plans prior to advertisement, bid and award phases.
  • Updates and maintains data for internal databases and plans such as the capital facilities plan, transportation improvement plan and project database.
  • Prepares reports and presentations.
  • Prepares RFQs, RFPs and bid solicitations as required to procure consultants and contractors.


Qualifications


  • Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
  • 4 years of progressively responsible professional capital construction project management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, project management or directly related field


Licensing, Certifications And Other Requirements


Valid Washington State Driver's License with maintenance thereafter


Desired Qualifications


  • Experience in municipal facility project planning, design, procurement and construction management strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various project management tools and software packages such as Microsoft Office, scheduling software (for example, Microsoft Project or Primavera), and earned value reporting preferred
  • LEED Accredited Professional (AP)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Supervisory or Leadership experience strongly preferred

Other Employment Information


Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.


Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.


Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
