Job Description

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Engineer - Sound is to skillfully spec, set, operate, troubleshoot, and strike all live audio systems in Audio Visual Department operating areas.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. This is a safety–related position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to discuss sound needs with both internal and external clients, and offer suggestions for their live events, as assigned.
  • Advance audio riders and audio requirements for contracted entertainment.
  • Provide on-going, basic maintenance to built-in and portable audio systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in a moment’s notice in a live environment.
  • Ability to spec, assemble, setup, operate, and strike audio systems of all types and sizes (large and small-scale) in a multitude of different property locations and environments.
  • Maintain assigned operational functions within the department consistent with the Audio Visual Department goals and objectives.
  • Deliver the utmost sound capability and quality to our guests.
  • Position and rig microphones, conduct sound checks, and operate audio consoles.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Display a professional attitude in a consistently changing environment while adhering to The Venetian Resort, OSHA and departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Provide basic operation of pre-programmed lighting consoles in a lounge environment, when needed.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Audio Visual Department.
  • Offer ideas and suggestions for new products, services, technology and processes to ensure The Venetian Resort’s competitive position and in anticipation of changing customer needs within the dynamic hospitality and gaming environment.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Working knowledge of electronics, physics and acoustics.
  • Working knowledge of Background Music Systems is a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any other certification or license, as required by law or policy.
  • High school diploma.
  • 21 years of age.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital audio consoles and basic lighting consoles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a live entertainment or technical environment.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • 5 years of experience with audio mixing and equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Lift or carry 50 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
