Job Description
Position Summary


The Powerplant Engineer is responsible for technical standards and reliability of Airbus 320/321, Airbus 220 and Embraer 190 series aircraft engines, power-plant, auxiliary power unit (APU) and components.


Essential Responsibilities


  • Review Engine Health Monitoring (EHM) trend data and implement corrective actions to prevent operational problems.
  • Identify new technologies that will improve the operational performance and reliability of engines and components.
  • Coordinate engineering functions with regulatory agencies as required for approval for major repairs and alterations.
  • Maintains awareness of ETOPS significant systems. Assists the department to ensure ETOPS aircraft continue to meet requirements for configuration, maintenance, and procedures for extended range operations.
  • Review Service Bulletins, Service Letters, and other service documents to determine applicability. Perform cost benefit analysis to determine effectiveness of proposed modifications
  • Evaluate damaged engine parts and provide solutions beyond the applicable manual limitations in accordance with regulatory and original equipment manufacturer requirements
  • Review aircraft reliability data and implement corrective actions via engineering modification and/or repair documents in support of achieving aircraft technical dispatch reliability (TDR) goals.
  • Provides technical assistance to operational departments and repair providers to support aircraft operations, engine repairs and/or maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Establish build standards and specifications for engines, powerplant, APUs and components
  • Develop engineering procedures, standards and process specification to comply with Airworthiness Directives and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support to engine leasing and returns.
  • Develop and issue engineering orders to accomplish major and minor repairs, modifications and alterations to engines, powerplant, components and accessories.


Minimum Experience And Qualifications


  • Available for overnight travel (10%)
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Familiar with Federal Aviation Regulations governing aircraft and engine certification
  • Three (3) years of Aircraft Powerplant experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets JetBlue Airways’ insurance standards
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; OR an Associate’s degree in aviation related field with Two (2) years of previous relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; in both oral and written communication


Preferred Experience And Qualifications


  • Engine Health Monitoring using engine trend monitoring programs
  • IAE V2500-A5 and/or GE CF34-10E and/or P&W Geared Turbo Fan (PW1100/PW1500) engine experience
  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills as well as strong analytical abilities
  • Honeywell 131-A/B/C APU and/or P&W Canada AP2300 APU experience
  • Familiarity with TRAX Maintenance computer system.
  • Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  • Computer literate with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate

  • Ability to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Upholding JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • Provide on-call off-hours support to Technical Operations
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Regular attendance and punctuality
