Occupational Summary
Receive and dispatch calls for service and operate radio and telecommunications equipment in support of Duke University Police Department operations.
Work Performed
Receive calls for service for police and security services.
- Receive and transmit radio traffic between the Emergency Communication Center, police and security units, and other University radio system users. Monitor emergency alarm systems including burglar, fire, panic, and special condition alarms.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Provide information about the University to students, staff and the general public.
- Relay a variety of departmental police information to appropriate personnel. Perform inquiries of federal, state, and local criminal justice databases and provide information to authorized personnel.
- Maintain daily logs of all incoming and outgoing radio messages; ensure radio logs adhere to the Federal Communications Commission regulations.
- Update departmental databases in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain current status of active police and security units.
- Determine priority of calls for service and assign to appropriate police or security units.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires comprehension and communications skills normally acquired through a high school education.
Experience
One year of experience in large volume communication systems. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
