Job Description

Duties

As an Electronics Technician you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs a full range of functions in the overall installation, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and quality assurance of data and voice communications services.
  • Conducts technical review, analysis, and evaluation of equipment and system problems or proposals in specialized area. Determines optimum solutions in terms of costs and operating performance. Compiles data and prepares technical reports in conformance with required formats.
  • Performs technical assignments in design, development and modification of existing and planned communication systems. Applies thorough practical knowledge of principles, methods, standards and techniques involved in the specialized field.
  • Is responsible for detailed and complex assignments in the areas of digital satellite, frequency division multiplex equipment, time division multiplex equipment, wideband digital circuit transmission methods, technical control facility equipment and signal and power systems and grounding techniques. Applies installation techniques in the above areas we well as in hands-on troubleshooting and restorable techniques using appropriate test, measurement and diagnostic equipment such as spectrum analyzer bit error rate testers, protocol analyzers, etc.
2. Provides operational and technical expertise to site personnel pertaining to problem resolution.
  • Reviews plans and projects for new installations and upgrades or improvements and interprets intricate installation specifications as well as new or revised procedures and policies for adequacy and compliance with regulations in order to satisfy technical and operational requirements.
  • Clarifies policies and procedures and provides hands-on training.
3. Serves as Property Control Officer to maintain the PIPS property accountability database and provide accountable officers with barcodes and guidance on procurement, maintenance and disposal of equipment and property.
4. Prepares procurement documentation such as request for requisitions, market research, Statements of Work, etc. in support of the Operations. Reviews invoices from vendors to ensure accuracy of billing for services rendered and resolves discrepancies concerning those services.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-11 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
For this position, the following specialized experience is required:
  • Knowledge of and skill applying specialized electronics principles, concepts, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) broadcast principles.
  • Ability to keep appropriate records and prepare information by several graphical means via standard computer software programs.
  • Knowledge of and skill applying standard rules, procedures, or operations in standard electronics, methods, and equipment.
