Job Description

Who We Are: Madison Scientific is a fast-growing, early-stage medical device startup located in Lisle, Illinois. We are developing a novel implantable hydrocephalus shunt system that employs the latest sensing, actuation, and wireless technology. We’re recruiting a core team of flexible, creative, and motivated engineers to use state-of-the-art microelectronics sensor, control, and actuator technologies to design a breakthrough system that will dramatically improve the lives of millions of children and adults with hydrocephalus. Selected candidates who excel at creative problem solving in a dynamic, team-oriented environment will have an opportunity to get into a medical device startup on the ground floor.

We Offer: Competitive salary and benefits, a healthcare plan, flexible work hours, and stock options; a friendly but professional environment tightly focused on the company mission; an opportunity to enter the company early and play a key role in influencing the product’s and company’s growth trajectory.

Work Location: Our office and lab in Lisle, Illinois is 30 miles due west of downtown Chicago, conveniently located near affordable housing, shops & restaurants, and a Metra train station. Occasional local, domestic, or international travel may be required. Work location (home vs office) is flexible, depending on project activities, typically requiring at least 3-4 days per week in the lab.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Design, prototype, and test electronic subsystems, and systems using the latest miniature, low-power sensing, processing, actuation, and wireless communication technologies.
  2. Troubleshoot and debug electrical circuits and systems, identifying root causes of problems and implementing corrective actions to ensure optimal performance.
  3. Research, evaluate, and select electronic components based on their functionality, quality, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring that they meet design criteria and project specifications.
  4. Develop and maintain PCB schematics and layouts, ensuring that they adhere to industry standards and are optimized for manufacturing.
  5. Develop embedded software using C/C++ programming languages, integrating firmware with hardware components to create reliable and efficient systems.
  6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project execution.
  7. Conduct testing and validation of electrical systems, components, and software, ensuring that they meet performance requirements and comply with relevant standards.
  8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of designs, test results, and project progress, ensuring effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
