Job Description

Title:

Electrical & Instrumentation Designer

As an Electrical Designer, you will perform all conventional aspects of electrical and instrumentation design. You will plan, schedule, and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will perform work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. You will provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers. Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operations.

This is a long-term position located in Parlin, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Select, specify and document purchased components and materials.
  • Create and draft all E&I drawings needed to safely implement the project.
  • Development of piping scope of work (SOW) for projects.
  • Collaborate with project team to meet technical data package goals of a project.
  • Complete designs of assigned projects, including conducting design reviews with project stakeholders.
  • Create bill of materials.
  • Create cable drawings.
  • Responsible for study, design, specification and services related to electrical and electronic systems including process systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, distributed control system (DCS), communications systems, grounding lighting protection, heat tracing, etc.
  • Work with client engineers, process area coordinators and construction leads to properly execute design packages for < $500K jobs, from Front End Loading (FEL) thru Issued for Construction (IFC)

Requirements

  • Electrical design and field experience in chemical or petrochemical plants is a plus
  • Ability to climb stairs and conduct field work on a daily basis is a requirement.
  • Familiarity with electrical design symbology, practices and standards is a plus
  • 10-15 years related design experience
  • Strong communication skills required.
  • Proficiency Proficient in MicroStation, Adobe Standard, PDMS and Microsoft Office Suite application.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
  • Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
  • Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs frequently, etc
  • Assignments may require conducting plant walkdowns and wearing chemical plant or refinery PPE to include an H2S monitor, escape respirator, and FP coveralls.
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs
