Electrical Estimator: Full-Time Position located in one of our US offices in Ashburn, VA, Boardman, OR, or Worthington, OH)

Hanley Energy are pleased to provide an opening for an Electrical Estimator to join the estimating team. The role will focus primarily on data center electrical installation with a premium on Medium Voltage, EPMS, BMS, and Testing.


The Electrical Estimator will work closely with cross-functional teams in the delivery of accurately priced solutions to our customers.


This role will require the individual to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external teams, and with new and existing customers. The Electrical Estimator will also align to a high-performance culture, which requires personal accountability and commitment to results.


Role / Requirements:

  • Working on a variety of large-scale projects including datacenters, industrial power systems, control systems, pharma etc.
  • Provide specific technical expertise for projects assisting the consulting, planning, engineering, production, quality and deployment teams.
  • Ensure deliverables are compliant with the company’s quality processes.
  • Coordinating with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders on an on-going basis.
  • Involved in full tender process from beginning to completion.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiations with suppliers, customers and sub-contractors.
  • Document and record all enquiries ensuring sales pipeline is maintained and up to date.
  • Review project documents, gather proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Provide support on technical features to personnel assigned to project delivery.
  • Identify labor needs and material requirements by studying related documents.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.
  • Ensure projects return times are achieved.
  • Communicate with clients, consultants, designers, and suppliers as required.
  • Exercise technical direction for products and technical areas of expertise.
  • Prepare project quotations to agreed standards in professional format.
  • Develop high level concepts to customer needs.
  • Follow up with customers, converting quotations to sales.
  • Create budgets, BOMs, manage costs, small project management tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Travel within North America may be required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and independently.
  • Full driving license to travel to customer site meetings will be required in this role.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant electrical experience.
  • A relevant higher education degree and/or an electrical trade background.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background check.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under strict deadlines.

Desirable Skills:

  • Customer orientated, and organised with good attention to detail.
  • Electrical switchgear, electrical manufacturing, electrical design & commissioning.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Quantity surveying, cost management, electrical estimation, project management.
  • Good technical understanding of energy monitoring systems.
  • Controls/ building management systems / automation systems / instrumentation.
  • Competent in Microsoft tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and AutoCAD an advantage.
