Job Description

The City of Bryan Electric Utility Department, Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU), is accepting applications for Electrical Engineer.

Hiring Pay Rate
$65,000-$80,000/year (depending on qualifications)

Job Summary
Plans and assists with the construction and maintenance of electrical substation and transmission line projects with a continuous focus on regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Applies electrical engineering principles to engineer, design, and modify electrical substations, their equipment, relay, and communications systems used in the electric power utility.
  • Prepares reports as needed and interacts with ERCOT.
  • Reviews and comments on proposed reliability standards revisions.
  • Provides technical direction to field personnel as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Coordinates and develops transmission material and construction standards.
  • Stays updated on changes in regulatory rules impacting BTU by attending relevant workshops and conferences and by developing relationships with governmental agencies in order to maintain and improve regulatory function.
  • Prepares detailed specifications for equipment, evaluates bids and submittals, makes recommendations, and checks for compliance.
  • Interfaces with Regulatory Compliance organization(s).
  • Oversees contract work on various construction projects as needed; writes, reviews and monitors contracts.
  • Writes and obtains transmission easements.
  • Supports service restoration during outages
  • Revises internal processes and procedures to address approved standards revisions.
  • Develops responses to Reliability Standards Audit Worksheets.
  • Reviews Lessons-Learned, Compliance Application Notices, and Compliance Analysis Reports to determine impacts and changes to organization processes and procedures.
  • Aids in the development of routes and plans for electric transmission lines, preparing drawings, and recommending types of equipment and materials to be used.
  • Supports internal and external NERC compliance audit activities.
  • Develops long range transmission and substation plans.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a similar field of study.

Preferred:

  • Related experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
