Pay Range
$46.90 - $58.24 Hourly
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

We have multiple openings for Electrical Designers. You will provide advanced electrical design and drafting support including electrical design, drawing and data management of control/diagnostic systems and sub systems. This work will take place within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate, home to the world’s most energetic laser. It is an exciting time to join the team that achieved fusion ignition in December 2022, a historic moment in science, opening up new physics regimes and setting the stage for new fusion energy possibilities.
You will develop, interpret, and translate concepts into design layouts, with supportive calculations and documentation. These positions are in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.
You will
Provide advanced Electrical Design and drafting support at a system level to engineering, scientific, and technical staff utilizing knowledge of CAD tools where design parameters and specifications have been established.
Provide supporting documentation for electrical design solutions that may include analysis, schedules, costing, processes, and procedures.
Provide graphics and related technical material in support of design reviews, procedures, and other documentation.
Review completed drawings and other documentation for adherence to LLNL drafting standards and specifications.
Maintain drawings and other technical records applying appropriate Configuration Management with a Product Lifecycle Management platform.
Generate electro-mechanical design solutions that address requirements and constraints, and translate these solutions into detailed interconnection, schematic, wiring, panel layouts, silkscreens, and associated mechanical detail and assembly drawings.
Perform calculations to support technical work using standard engineering formulas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Associate Degree in Electrical Design/Drafting Technology or Electro-Mechanical Design/Drafting or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
Significant knowledge of developing design concepts with a broad background in its various sub-disciplines – mechanical, optical, and Electro-Mechanical.
Significant knowledge and experience in AutoCAD.
Experience within the scope of conception, design, fabrication and materials, prototyping projects from start to finish.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex design requirements, and to exercise creativity and judgment in solving electrical or mechanical design problems.
Ability to interpret and follow notes sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures.
Experience working as a member of a project team with engineers, scientists, designers, technicians, and coordinators.
Possess effective written, verbal, feedback, and presentation communication skills. Analytical skills in systems analysis and experience on experimental systems.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Qualifications We Desire
Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience using any of the following softwares: PTC Windchill, Creo Parametric, Creo Schematics, Mentor Graphics PADS/ DX Designer, GerbTool.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
Experience in reviewing and verifying the accuracy of work performed by peers and other engineering disciplines as needed.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
