Join our team at the Los Alamos Nuclear Laboratory and contribute to a dynamic team of facility engineering professionals that provide engineering solutions across a wide variety of buildings at one of the most important research facilities in the world.


  • Works with other disciplines to coordinate deliverables and schedules.
  • Highly proficient with AutoCAD
  • May perform drawing checks.
  • Capable of providing and evaluating cost estimates for design effort.
  • Develops design solutions for unique a design challenges. Understands and applies design limits in non- routine environments.
  • Observes LANL engineering policies; Conduct of Engineering.
  • Applies knowledge of materials and their suitability application. Makes materials decisions for design packages.
  • Evaluates potential design changes to eliminate future problems. Incorporates lessons learned into standard details and practices.
  • Ability to manage and mentor several junior designers, work on project teams.
  • Capable of providing expert design advice in field of endeavor.
  • Promotes a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Ability to work directly with customers to consult; represent the organization; define scope.
  • Work is performed without significant direction. Completed work is reviewed from the perspective of desired results.
  • Ability to maintain the required safety and security training and compliance.
  • Adheres to established CAD standards and best practices for efficiency and achievability.
  • Provides technical solutions to complex and/or unique problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity and independence. Solutions are frequently original and impact the outcome of the entire project. Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product.
  • Knowledgeable in the application of industry codes and standards governing fire facilities.
  • Performs off-project design reviews.

Must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located.


Basic Job Requirements


Associate’s Degree in an engineering or technical subject, or equivalent with 5 years of related experience with electrical facilities design/drafting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Other Job Requirements


  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Participate in vendor trade shows and become familiar with new technologies and industry business direction
  • Make use of Fluor University courses for continued learning experiences
  • Utilize knowledge management communities to capture, support, and leverage relevant knowledge to enhance project execution


Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with contracts for construction
  • Familiarity with creation and function of construction contract documents
  • DOE and HC-2 Facility Background preferred
