Become an Electrical Construction Helper at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll assist in the building and retrofitting of Substations throughout the SCE Territory. As an Electrical Construction Helper, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions, and create cleaner air for everyone. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart, and shine bright!

  • Follows Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Unloads and assists in the installation of heavy electrical equipment such as transformers, regulators, and circuit breakers.
  • Assists Journeymen Construction Electricians in all aspects of substation construction.
  • Cuts, threads, and bends pipe and conduit.
  • Digs trenches, excavate for conduit, and performs various construction work.
  • Pulls control, power, and light wiring into conduit.
  • Assembles pull boxes and prefabricated steel.
  • Installs structural and equipment grounding of various apparatus.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications


The essentials

  • Expect frequent travel (80%) to Substations within the SCE service territory and Southern Nevada with the possibility of extended out-of-town assignments.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • One or more years of demonstrated experience in construction.

The preferred

  • Experience applying principles of electricity and application and working safely around energized equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as a forklift, skid steer, and manlifts.
  • Experience or training with electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors, starters, wiring, and circuits to assist electricians.

Work Mode: This position’s work mode is On-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining unescorted access to the assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
