Summary of Duties:

This recruitment will be filling two positions.

These positions works in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program known as EFNEP. The Nutrition Education Assistant, with training and supervision, teaches about nutrition in culturally sensitive and appropriate ways for adults and youth, low income audiences in various community locations. The mission is to teach adults and youth with limited incomes to develop skills and behaviors to eat healthfully.

These positions presents nutrition and food lessons to participants at locations throughout the county as part of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). This position is located at WSU Pierce County Extension and will work primarily with diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications:

Six months of full-time experience/training in the appropriate discipline; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing an annual background screening.
  • Ability to organize materials for classes.
  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).
  • Washington State Food Workers Card or willingness/ability to obtain on hire. (Paid for by WSU)
  • Knowledge of or experience working in food, nutrition, community education, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within targeted counties. (Travel will be reimbursed at standard IRS mileage rate)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language, in order to deliver classes in both languages.
  • Experience planning and delivering nutritional education to youth and adults.
  • Ability to work well with other people and diverse program participants.
  • Ability to keep written logs of activities and complete reports.

Monthly Salary:

Range 39, $3,294.00 - 4,385.00 A-M |

Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 OR applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
