Job Description
THE POSITION
Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling (SWR) within the Department of Health and Human Services is looking for an Education and Outreach Supervisor to join our robust team!
The Solid Waste & Recycling Division is actively working to achieve our vision of a sustainable, informed, healthy, and resilient community. The Education and Outreach Supervisor will occupy the leadership role in managing the division’s outreach and community facing programs and must be able to exemplify the division's values of equity, inclusion, transparency, collaboration, and education.
In this role, you will oversee public information and education delivery to community members and businesses on behalf of the division. Oversight will focus on materials management programs serving a diverse array of businesses and community members. This also includes hiring and supervising staff; managing procurement and vendor relationships; engaging and coordinating stakeholders; assuring compliance with statutes, guidelines, and grant requirements; assessing program needs; overseeing program budget development; tracking the education and outreach budget; and facilitating program planning and work plan development. Additionally, you will play a critical role advising the division as a member of the management team and represent the division on various work groups and committees as well as lead and facilitate the Washington County Technical Wasteshed Committee, comprised of local city partner representatives that provide funding and support to the County's education and outreach program. Equity and inclusion are the priorities of our division, and this position will play a key role in ensuring community facing programs are implemented with an equity lens and in alignment with division and department goals and plans.
About YOU!
We are looking for an individual with experience in education and outreach program management or coordination in the environmental field - preferably in materials management. As this role will supervise two teams totaling between 7 and 9 individuals, previous supervisory experience and leadership skills are highly desirable. Possession of the ability to apply an equity lens and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is essential in this role.

Essential Job Duties
The Education and Outreach Supervisor is a working title. This position is classified as the Senior Program Coordinator. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in environmental management, public policy, or a related field; AND three (3) years of work experience in the environmental field. OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, public policy, or a related field; AND five (5) years of work experience in the environmental field. OR
  • Nine (9) years of work experience in the environmental field.
  • Associate Degree in environmental management, public policy, or related fields; AND seven (7) years of work experience in the environmental field. OR
