Job Description
Status: 18-month Contract / Compensation: $50.00/Hour


Job Summary:


You will work with Amy Webb, CEO, with an eclectic mix of editorial projects, including research for articles and books, television commentary, speeches, trend reports, and policy work. If you are entering a career in research or journalism and have a keen interest in the influence of technology on business and society, this position could be an excellent opportunity for you.


You will:


  • Identify emerging concerns in technology and society
  • Help write email newsletters
  • Read through a list of publications and synthesize research briefs for articles, speeches, panel discussions, and TV/ radio/ podcast appearances
  • Maintain a database of upcoming newsworthy events and update the CEO with relevant information
  • Conduct some interviews for articles; also review transcripts and highlight relevant quotes, ideas
  • Stay curious and connected to elusive information and individuals
  • Read robust documentation including but not limited to academic papers, think tank papers, policy documents, patent and trademark databases
  • Interview and briefing preparation


You are/have:


  • Able to tell a story and advance an argument in an engaging, lively (read: journalist, rather than academic) style.
  • A clear and concise communicator, researcher, and writer.
  • An insatiable, natural curiosity.
  • A great eye for finding, interpreting, and distilling fata, facts and figures
  • A voracious consumer of information: you’re eager to learn about the latest developments in tech, and you often find yourself wandering down rabbit holes after asking a simple question.
  • Detail-oriented: you keep detailed notes and have a source for everything. That includes sources themselves.
  • Time Manage skills: you independently prioritize your tasks and meet deadlines with limited direction.
  • Creative bones: you use creativity to create solutions that reduce bottlenecks, increase speed, and make your research, writing, and publishing process easier.
  • Execution skills: you like to check items off your to-do list and stay organized so nothing falls between the cracks


Requirements


Minimum qualification:


  • Ability to stay productive under pressure (especially high-profile deadlines).
  • 2-5 years of previous research or reporting experience.
  • Ability to adapt and think quickly
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Trello, Slack, Miro, Keynote.
  • An absolute conviction for conducting high-quality reporting and research.
