Navajo County is seeking an experienced economic development director to be the leader of regional efforts to attract and retain quality businesses and industries that will contribute to and expand the high quality of life in Navajo County. The successful candidate will be an individual with proven initiative, positive mindset, relationship builder, skillful negotiator and proven ability to close the deal. This leadership position will be responsible for engaging regional partners and leading the current regional economic development organization, REAL AZ. In addition, the director will work closely with the Countys Government Relations to assure that legislative efforts contribute to economic development initiatives and an improved quality of life for our County. It will be important for this leader to establish a healthy working relationship with local businesses and Chambers of Commerce, the Arizona Commerce Authority, municipalities, educational institutions, significant land-owners, local developers, and regional, state and federal partners. The director will be responsible for leading the efforts to develop and maintain the Countys strategic economic development plan, including measurable outcomes. This position reports to Navajo County Manager under the direction of the Board of Supervisors.
Located in Northern Arizona, Navajo County is home to a staggering array of natural resources and outdoor amenities including the many lakes and streams nestled in the White Mountains, as well as the beautiful Petrified Forest National Park. Navajo County is a unique blend of small-town charm with comforts found in larger cities. Northeast Arizona residents enjoy a strong sense of community, access to open space, proximity to recreational amenities, weather, and small-town culture. The area also has an advantage in its relatively low cost of living, and in the relative proximity of neighborhoods and communities with diverse housing costs. The Countys Economic Development Director will recognize the natural draw to the region and understand how to develop and attract appropriate growth and industries which complement the environment and take advantage of the established transportation infrastructure. The Economic Development Director should also understand and help the region capitalize on the digital revolution that allows many workers the freedom to choose to live and work where they want. While many communities across the nation suffered negative economic impacts during the pandemic, Navajo County actually experienced a surge of visitors and seasonal residencies that proved the incredible potential to expand the professional workforce in the region.
\ Holbrook Arizona is the County seat and duty station for this position, however the work location is flexible and would expect to work throughout the County area.
