Job Description

Position Summary
This position supports grant goals related to providing high quality early childhood education. Individuals in this role will plan, instruct, and assess young children using an inquiry-based model for teaching and learning. This position is primarily connected to an early childhood classroom with supporting roles in work with pre-service teachers. (See Supplemental Job Information for details).

This position is:
  • Collaborates with staff to develop an emergent curriculum, implement and facilitate inquiry-based teaching and learning practices to support young children, families, and Early Childhood Education students.
  • Responsible for working with stakeholders to support high quality early childhood education.

  • Creates an environment and structure for maintaining classroom order and behavior management.
  • Create and maintain classroom NAEYC portfolios.
  • Communicate with parents through various means including weekly sheets, emails, speaking, and bi-annual conferences, with particular emphasis on children’s growth.
  • Mentor and coach pre-service teachers based on research-based practices.
  • Teaches to meet standards in social emotional, physical, language, social studies, and the arts domains, in alignment with Department of Education requirements and standards.
  • Applies pedagogical and theoretical knowledge of early childhood education to engage in teacher inquiry in order to inform learning that is shared within the professional learning community.
  • Leads children in the classroom using project-based learning. Collaborates with co-teacher to plan and implement learning experiences.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of child development and early childhood learning that informs the implementation of developmentally appropriate practices in the daily life of the classroom.
  • Uses authentic assessment strategies including photography, anecdotal records, children’s words, and artifacts as a means to analyze student learning, and make instructional decisions.
  • Create and manage a portfolio for every child in the classroom as a form of authentic assessment to demonstrate children’s learning.
  • Creates and displays children’s learning through documentation panels.
