General Description


Under the direction of the Shipping Manager, the Driver / Material Handler will be responsible for all pick-ups and deliveries for BCT and BCP. Also, to receive incoming shipments, inventory the items, and pick items according to customer order and/or manufacturing orders when not driving. S/he will also be responsible for the loading out of all freight, making custom pallets for unique products, and banding/wrapping product properly. Responsible for helping Materials Manager with inventory projects.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.


  • Unload incoming trucks (small parcels, LTL and FTL) to receive raw materials, parts, and components, and move these to their proper storage bins and locations to ensure organization and efficiency.
  • Help other Departments as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Operating a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count material.
  • Participate in annual physical inventories.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area with the ability to operate lifting equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Read and pull inventory parts from a pick report.
  • Pack and/or crate completed parts, assemblies, or components for shipment to customers following conventional packaging practices appropriate for the situation.
  • Helps drive and support BCT's Culture and Core Values.
  • Count accurately against a bill of lading for proper shipment.
  • Load finished products for shipment onto trucks or delivery vehicles, ensuring the safety and security of the loading and unloading process.
  • Create, complete, and maintain any required computer transactions, paperwork, and documents, etc.
  • Ensure work responsibilities are completed daily, including working overtime as needed.
  • Pick up or deliver raw materials, parts, components or finished products to customers or vendors as required using a company pickup truck, flatbed truck, or box truck in a safe, courteous, and timely manner. This position will require driving based on business needs, approximately 25% of the time. **Please see Job Requirements/Qualifications for driving below. **
  • Perform routine inspections on forklift trucks to ensure safe operating condition.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to drive "safe" in various road conditions.
  • Class D valid license
  • Ability to read a map or have an understanding of geographic area.

  • Must be able to follow verbal directions thoroughly.
  • 21 years of age or older


Job Requirements For Driving


All positions requiring regular driving require a written job description to include main duties, functions and the necessary physical requirements required to perform all associated tasks.


  • If required, candidates must pass a Dept. of Transportation physical evaluation.
  • Results of the physical evaluation will be compared to the necessary physical requirements.
  • All prospective employees will be required to undergo a physical evaluation.


An "Unacceptable" Driver Is Any Driver Whose Motor Vehicle Record Includes Any Of The Following Violations (during The Most Recent 3-year Period Unless Otherwise Stated)
  • Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle
  • Vehicular homicide/manslaughter
  • Permitting an unlicensed or intoxicated driver to drive
  • Felony involving the use of a motor vehicle
  • Speeding less than 20 mph above the speed limit
  • Driving with a suspended or fraudulent license
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DWI/DUI)
  • 3 or more moving violations in the last 3 years. This includes:
  • Operating a motor vehicle without the owner's permission (grand theft auto)
  • Passing a stopped school bus
  • Drag racing
  • Failure to yield right-of-way
  • Running a red light or stop sign
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving with an open container
  • Speeding 20 or more over the posted speed limit
  • Improper or excessive lane changes
  • 2 or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the last year.
  • Eluding a police officer
  • Leaving the scene of an accident (hit and run)
  • Operating while registration is suspended
  • Careless or inattentive driving (including texting or cell phone use)


Age/Experience Requirements


  • Drivers for vehicles over 26,000 pounds must have 5 years of experience.
  • No drivers over 65 unless underwriter approves
  • No drivers under 18.


Education And/or Experience


  • Material Handling experience (5 years preferred, not required)
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred, not required)
  • Overhead Crane/Forklift experience (3 years preferred, not required)
  • Clean Driving Record


Language Skills


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Reasoning Ability


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment


This job operates in a factory environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is often loud enough to require hearing protection.
