The Driver Position is responsible for the shipping, receiving, and loading and unloading movement of raw materials and finished goods to the plant, rail spur, and to customers. Responsible for shipping and receiving activities in accordance with DOT, FRA, and other standards and regulations. Responsible for assigned transportation tasks. Provides direct support for production processes, including, but not limited to, staging raw materials, staging packaging drums & totes, staging trailers, packaging & shipping finished product, inventory management practices, and general good housekeeping practices. Responsible for shipping and receiving activities in accordance with DOT, FRA, and other standards and regulations. Responsible for assigned transportation tasks. Provides direct support for production processes, including, but not limited to, staging raw materials, staging packaging drums & totes, staging trailers, packaging & shipping finished product, inventory management practices, and general good housekeeping practices. This position is located in the Perris, CA. facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance required
  • Reads production schedule, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
  • Processes shipping, receiving, and inventory data into computer tracking applications
  • Styrene rinse dirty trailers for production use
  • Receives and moves raw materials, supplies, and other materials to and from loading docks, delivery vehicles, storage areas, and production areas either manually or using equipment, such as a forklift, tractor-trailer, or a yard jockey, in a timely manner.
  • Executes good inventory management practices for the warehouse, railspur, tank farm, such as first in, first out and kanban
  • Operates tractor-trailer, forklift, and yard jockey safely and compentently
  • Competent and safe execution of responsibilities, as designated.
  • Perform railroad operations, including rail car transfer of material, rail car switches, and effectively communicate and coordinate with BNSF and production personnel.
  • Meets performance standards for quality, productivity, reliability, initiative, safety, and work relationships.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks and verify that incoming deliveries match the company purchase orders
  • Spots trailers into/out of loading and off-load bays
  • Competes and verifies shipping documentation, including but not limited to receiving raw materials into Hydra and processing FedEx shipments
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Perform all duties within Cal/OSHA safety rules and regulations at all times
  • Work flexible hours and willing to work overtime and stand-by shifts
  • Prepares packaged resin for shipment: drum palletizing, banding, and labeling, placard placement and verification, load securement, and preparing shipping paperwork per DOT and other regulatory standards
  • Utilizes yard jockey or tractor-trailer to position loaded and empty tankers for loading/unloading of finished resin and incoming raw materials.
  • Weighs inbound and outbound trailers; enters Resin on Wheels (ROW) data

Other Duties

  • Provides continuous improvement ideas in order to support lean and production initiatives
  • Performs painting, scraping, and cleaning of the work areas, as designated
  • Participates in the established plant safety and good housekeeping programs.
  • Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Participates in Incident investigations, helps to establish and implement corrective/preventive actions
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Completes monthly safety training requirements and participates in assigned subcommittees.
  • Assist with month end inventories and documentation retention

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use fingers and hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and sit for long periods, as well as occasionally be required to climb or balance.
  • Lifting requirement: Up to the maximum safety-recommended 55 pounds

Work Environment

Mainly a manufacturing facility, where exposed to chemical processing, outdoor work environment, moving mechanical parts, forklifts, yard jockey, heavy pallets, moderate to loud noise level, and air-borne dust, powders, and fumes. While working, will be required to wear various personal protective equipment (e.g., clothing, gloves, goggles, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, respirator, fall protection, disposable coverall suits, etc.).


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive a yard jockey and forklift
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Possession of a valid CDL with both a tanker and hazmat endorsements.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • At least 2 years’ experience driving with a tanker trailer
  • At least 1 year of warehouse and Shipping & Receiving experience in a hazardous chemical manufacturing environment required
  • Proven competency of good documentation practices
  • Basic math computation skills and ability to use a calculator; knowledge of and competency with using metric measurements
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work in all facility areas, as needed
  • Ability to teach and coach other employees within the scope of the position duties and responsibilities
  • Experience with DOT, FRA, and other regulatory standards required
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently – verbal and written instructions, DOT regulations, SOP’s, and batch records.
  • Ability to execute the established standard operating procedures
  • General computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as, Delta V, Hydra, BNSF, and FedEx HazMat shipping applications
  • Other competencies: good judgment, time management, organizational skills, ability to follow instructions, able to work on a team and independently, reliable to follow-through on delegated tasks, strong attention to detail.
