Job Description
THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Dog Wardens are responsible for enforcing the PA Dog Law (Act 119), Rabies law (Act 181) and any other applicable statues. This position inspects dogs to determine if they are licensed as required by the State Dog Law; investigates complaints pertaining to dogs running at large; investigates dog bites and places quarantines on dogs to ensure public safety; conducts investigations to settle claims for damages to livestock or poultry caused by dogs and prepares reports for payment of damages; conducts investigations of suspected illegal transportation or killing of dogs as well as out of state dealers; researches and investigates illegal/unlicensed kennels; and receives complaints regarding illegal kennels, violations of the State Dog Law, and inhumane kennel conditions, conducts an investigation into the complaint and issues a report.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • This position will be home Head Quartered in Delaware or Philadelphia Counties.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday; with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in dog law enforcement work and graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license; or ability to gain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license within the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
