The Passaic County Department of Human Services is seeking a detail-oriented division director to oversee the division of Community Outreach and Family Services. The Division Director under the supervision of the Human Services Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, directing, and setting policy for all of the division’s programs which provide services focused on the prevention of homelessness, Continuum of Care, and social service programs for the residents of the community; does other related work as required:

  • Plans, organizes, and administers programs in the field of housing, food security, including anti-poverty programs for residents of the community.
  • Prepares correspondence and maintains records and files.
  • Directs and develops a public relations program, which includes the preparation of informational releases and promotional materials for community programs.
  • Leads the strategic planning efforts around addressing homelessness in Passaic County
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Directs, plans, and supervises program staff, including the facilitation of weekly team meetings.
  • Leads meetings of the Passaic County Interagency Council on Homelessness and related subcommittees
  • Directs programs to stimulate participation by community residents, to ensure housing stability, social activities, education, and housing task force.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Agency, other community groups, and other agencies.

Requirements:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in social work, sociology, guidance or counseling.

Experience: Five (5) years of supervisory experience in the field of community relations and/or social services.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to develop and execute a plan for the utilization of available funds, personnel, equipment, and materials.
  • Management of contracts, reports, and data analysis for the division.
  • Ability to organize, develop, plan, and supervise community relations and social service programs.
  • Knowledge of HUD Continuum of Care funding preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers involved in the work of the unit.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures for organizing and supervising such programs.
  • Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff and supervise their work performance.
  • Knowledge of the purposes, policies, standards, and procedures involved in the division’s programs.
  • Knowledge of the organization, objectives, and activities of varied types of public and private social agencies.
