Position Description

Congressional Member (D-CA) seeks a District Director to oversee all strategic planning and operational implementation for his team based in Stockton, California.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Manages a team of six to eight employees including interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning and directing work and appraising performance

● Represents the Congressman to top California stakeholders and frequently travels through the district to keep abreast of local concerns

● Maintains close collaboration with the Washington, D.C. office including the legislative, communications and scheduling teams

● Serves as a top strategic advisor to Congressman about all local relationships, policy issues and political decisions

● Works well under pressure and handles stress

● Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and weekends


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

● 8+ years of political, government or non-profit management experience. This is not an entry-level position and reports directly to the Congressman’s Chief of Staff.

● Experience successfully working with local stakeholders to better San Joaquin County

● Is a leader with strong interpersonal skills who thrives in a diverse, collaborative, and team-first environment

● Works quickly under pressure and manages time efficiently

● Possess strong oral and written communication skills

● Is creative and has an entrepreneurial spirit

Compensation

The pay is commensurate with experience along with a competitive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, federal student loan repayment (terms apply), transit or parking benefits, and partial remote work flexibilities.

  • Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible
  • Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law)
