Job Description

About the Role:

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsibilities include the receiving, storage, and rotating of delivered and stored foods, supplies, and chemicals. This includes proper rotation of products and proper storage of stock. This position may also perform various kitchen duties such as dish and pot washing, kitchen cleaning, and the storing of dining services materials.


RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS: Checks in and receives all orders and deliveries. Dates, labels, and rotates all stock. Maintains all storage areas, refrigerators, freezers, and pantries, in an orderly fashion. May operates dishwashing machine: wash and sanitize dishes, silverware, glasses, utensils, and cooking equipment, maintains dish and pot washing areas, cleans equipment as needed. Removes waste on a daily basis or as needed, adheres to daily and weekly cleaning schedules, practices safety and loss prevention procedures, may assists with food preparation and plating, attends all in-services as required, and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain sanitary condition of dishes, utensils, glasses, pots, pans, equipment and kitchen in accordance with Senior Lifestyle Corporation standards
  • Safely and efficiently operates dish washing machine according to procedure manual.
  • Ensures proper soap and rinse chemicals are loaded for washing.
  • Removes from service any dishes, utensils, and glassware that are damaged or broken.
  • Stocks delivered food and non-food items.
  • Empty and clear garbage bins and breakdown of boxes.
  • Deep cleaning of kitchen and equipment.
  • Attends all training and in-service seminars.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Performs all duties in adherence to Senior Lifestyle Corporation standards.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of Senior Lifestyle Corporation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Wash dishes; scrape and rack dishes; sort, stack, store clean dishes.

  • Mop, sweep, and clean work area.
  • Take out trash.
  • Wrap silverware.
  • Receive and store groceries, frozen foods, produce, etc.; date, rotate canned goods.
  • Detect, correct and/or report situations that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to residents or others.
  • Observe and report resident symptoms, reactions and changes.
  • Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures and requirements. Maintain compliance with all federal and state laws.
  • Maintain compliance with all agency regulatory guidelines and requirements.
  • Help with prep work for meal services.
  • Work successfully as part of a team and responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with co-workers.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as requested.
  • Task which is considered to be an essential function of the job.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Requires ability to read, write and understand business documents which are written in English.
  • Requires ability to communicate verbally with residents, families, visitors and co-workers. Requires ability to make self clearly understood by others.
  • Requires ability to understand and follow basic written and oral step-by-step instructions.
  • Requires ability to move food serving and preparation equipment as needed, using up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
  • Work deals mostly with objects, equipment and/or machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach. Depth perception and field of vision (peripheral) are of some importance.
  • Requires ability to turn, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, handle, stand, walk over 75% of shift.
  • Requires ability to safely utilize kitchen equipment and recognize differences in sound generated by equipment or machinery which may indicate operation problems or safety concerns.
  • Requires ability to work under close supervision performing routine, standardized tasks.
  • Requires ability to perform tasks with due consideration for residents in vicinity and ability to cooperate and work with other employees.
  • Requires ability to learn basic food serving, cleanliness and sanitation requirements.
  • Requires commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.
  • Requires sufficient good health to properly discharge duties. Employees shall not be permitted to work who have infectious disease or skin lesion for the duration of the communicability.
  • Requires ability to comply with Patient Rights, all regulatory requirements, and all company policies and procedures as stated now and in the future.
