Summary
The Director of Supply Chain, reports solid line to the Loitering Munitions Systems Segment leadership team. We are seeking a dynamic and strategic-minded Director of Supply Chain to lead our global procurement and subcontracting operations within our LMS business segment. As the Director of Supply Chain, you will play a critical role in ensuring efficient and effective sourcing, procurement, and subcontracting processes while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and operational excellence. Your responsibilities will include strategic leadership and ownership of a global supply chain organization, developing and implementing supply chain strategies, managing supplier relationships, optimizing inventory management, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced and dynamic aerospace defense environment.
Position Responsibilities
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the supply chain function. Implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency. Encourage cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing to drive innovation and best practices.
  • The Director of Supply Chain is responsible, accountable and have the authority for the operational efficiency, strategy, planning and execution of Global Supply Chain and subcontracts for the AeroVironment’s Loitering Munitions Systems Business Segment in Simi Valley
  • Global Procurement: Lead the global procurement efforts, including strategic sourcing, supplier selection, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, monitor market trends, and implement strategies to ensure the availability of high-quality materials and components at competitive prices.
  • Quality and Compliance: Ensure supplier and subcontractor compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and industry certifications. Collaborate with quality assurance and engineering teams to implement robust quality control processes, drive supplier quality improvement initiatives, and manage non-conformities and corrective actions.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Develop and nurture strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, fostering collaboration and driving supplier performance improvement. Conduct regular supplier evaluations, track key performance metrics, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supplier capabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Team Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the supply chain team. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, mentor and develop team members, and ensure the team's skills and capabilities align with the evolving needs of the organization.

  • Supply Chain Strategy: Develop and execute the overall supply chain strategy to support the organization's goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for cost optimization, risk mitigation, and process improvement within the global procurement and subcontracting functions.
  • Inventory Management: Optimize inventory levels while ensuring material availability to meet production schedules and customer demand. Implement effective inventory control measures, including demand forecasting, inventory tracking systems, and stock replenishment strategies, to minimize costs and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks within the supply chain, including supply disruptions, geopolitical factors, and compliance issues. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, contingency plans, and business continuity measures to minimize potential disruptions and maintain a resilient supply chain.
  • Subcontracting Management: Oversee the subcontracting activities, including identifying suitable subcontractors, negotiating contracts, and managing subcontractor performance. Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to ensure subcontractors meet project requirements and deliver on time and within budget.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, global procurement, and subcontracting, preferably within the aerospace defense industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing supply chain strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Proven track record in supplier relationship management, including supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, and performance improvement.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Solid understanding of quality management systems, compliance requirements, and industry certifications related to aerospace defense supply chain operations (AS9100, ISO).
  • Strong knowledge of global procurement practices, supply chain management principles, and subcontracting processes.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • International Supply Chain Expertise: Experience managing global supply chains familiarity with global sourcing strategies, managing suppliers in different regions, and navigating geopolitical complexities is advantageous.
  • Contract Management: Proficiency in contract management, including drafting and negotiating supply agreements, subcontractor agreements, and service-level agreements. Knowledge of legal terms, intellectual property protection, and contract risk assessment is beneficial.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and understanding of cultural differences when dealing with international suppliers and subcontractors. Ability to navigate diverse cultural environments, build rapport, and effectively manage cross-cultural communication and relationships.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost analysis, and financial forecasting skills. Ability to develop and manage supply chain budgets, analyze total cost of ownership, and identify cost-saving opportunities within the supply chain function.
  • New product development (NPD) or new product introduction (NPI) supply chain experience, preferably within aerospace or frontier technology industries
  • Professional Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), and or Project Management Professional (PMP) are advantageous.
  • Change Management: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing change within a supply chain organization. Ability to drive organizational transformation, overcome resistance to change, and effectively communicate and implement new processes and initiatives.
  • Aerospace Defense Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the aerospace defense industry, including an understanding of industry-specific regulations, standards, and best practices. Knowledge of defense contracting, government procurement processes, and ITAR regulations is highly desirable. FAR and DFAR experience highly desirable.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to effectively manage complex supply chain projects. Experience in leading cross-functional teams, setting project timelines, and ensuring timely project completion.
  • Technology and Digitalization: Understanding of supply chain technologies, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) tools, and data analytics. Ability to leverage technology solutions to enhance supply chain visibility, optimize processes, and drive digital transformation.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, resolve conflicts, and facilitate collaboration across departments and teams.

The salary range for this role is:
$157,722 - $236,584
