Job Description

The Director of Resource Development & Communications (Director) reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a vital member of the Strategy team. Along with the President and the Chief of Staff, the Director is responsible for fund development, donor stewardship, outward-facing communications, and public/media relations. The Director works closely with senior staff to advance strategic priorities, anticipate issues, respond to opportunities, identify project needs, build relationships with stakeholders, and manage deadlines. The Director also helps to plan, coordinate, and implement special events to help the organization meet its goals and pursue its mission.

ABOUT ONE|NB

ONE Neighborhood Builders (ONE|NB) is a nonprofit community development leader in Rhode Island that is expanding its work to the broader Greater Providence area while maintaining its deep roots in its historic home of Olneyville. ONE|NB’s mission is to develop affordable housing and engage neighbors to cultivate healthy, vibrant, and safe communities. Since its founding in 1988, then as Olneyville Housing Corporation, ONE|NB has developed 466 affordable apartments; 130 for-sale homes for low- to moderate-income homebuyers; and nearly 35,000 square feet of commercial and community space—totaling more than $135 million of investments. ONE|NB is the convening entity ofCentral Providence Opportunities: A Health Equity Zone (CPO-HEZ), which brings together residents, more than five dozen community-based organizations, health professionals, local businesses, elected officials, and others to address root causes of health disparities and to improve neighborhood conditions. As the convener, ONE|NB is the backbone organization of this collective-impact initiative to increase economic mobility for residents in Central Providence. ONE|NB also createdthe first free community wireless networkin Rhode Island, providing high-speed broadband to nearly 3000 unique users in the Olneyville neighborhood.

STRATEGIC DIRECTION

In June of 2020, ONE|NB established the following strategic direction. ONE|NB is poised to soon reveal its 2023-2028 updated strategy. This new strategy builds on the organization’s recent successes and will not reflect a significant departure.

·Robust Housing Development and Quality Real Estate Management

ONE|NB will expand the availability of affordable, high-quality homes through the production, preservation, and acquisition of residential and mixed-used properties within their historic home of Olneyville and across Greater Providence.

·Addressing Root Causes of Health Disparities

ONE|NB will engage residents and community-based organizations in their nine Central Providence neighborhoods to generate the social and economic conditions that prolong life expectancy and work to eradicate systemic barriers that lead to health disparities.

·Embracing Innovation and Building the Community Development Field

ONE|NB will emerge as a thought leader in the field by distilling the lessons learned from developing and managing housing and convening residents and community organizations. They will participate in local and regional community development conversations, produce research and case studies, and amplify the impact of their community partners.


Key Responsibilities

The Director will supervise a team of two, comprised of an Associate Director of Resource Development and a Communications Manager, as well as the third-party communications and public relations firm retained by ONE|NB.

Responsibilities include:

·Provide strategic leadership to the organization’s fund development strategy, ensuring alignment with the agency’s objectives and key priorities.

oWork in partnership with the Associate Director of Resource Development in executing grant writing, editing, submission, and management for both public sector and private foundation funding opportunities.

oLead the development and implementation of an individual donor cultivation and stewardship strategy.

·Build and steward relationships with private foundations, individual donors, press and media contacts, and other partners as necessary.

·Identify and implement opportunities to communicate the organization’s mission, goals, and accomplishments to its stakeholders, including partners, donors, and the public.

oEnsure external communications are consistent, compelling, relevant, and accurate.

oWork collaboratively across the organization to identify opportunities for sharing our story/learnings. Support efforts related to advocacy.

·Work closely with the Communications Manager to update and manage the website, provide timely and effective social media posts and interactions, and implement email campaigns.

·Work collaboratively with the third-party public relations firm to cultivate and implement strategic and thoughtful media opportunities and respond to press inquiries.

·Plan, coordinate, and implement special events including ribbon-cuttings, press events, fundraising gatherings, and related.


QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be an experienced, results-oriented professional with an exceptional work-ethic, committed to racial equity and advancing anti-racism practices, and to the vision and values of ONE|NB. In addition, the following attributes will generally define the successful Director of Resource Development & Communications:

·Minimum of 10 years of related professional experience;

·Experience securing and stewarding large ($250,000 or more) foundation grants and federal grants exceeding $500,000;

·Experience managing communications strategy, including press and media relations;

·Experience leading multi-functional teams, with an ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization to create buy-in and a sense of shared responsibility;

·Experience managing events, including donor cultivation and stewardship events;

·Experience leading individual giving strategies and implementing a major gifts strategy is a plus;

·Experience with managing multi-year capital campaign preferred;

·Superior communication skills, both oral and written;

·Outstanding analytical and strategic thinking skills;

·Knowledge of community development, RI’s funding and media landscape, and ONE|NB’s key stakeholders is a plus;

·Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

The Director of Resource Development & Communications will be required to work a full-time schedule with some flexibility required on nights and weekends. This role offers flexibility to work remotely an estimated two times per week initially and greater flexibility once established in the role.

ONE|NB offers a robust benefits package (including health, dental, and vision insurance), a retirement plan with matching contribution, a generous allotment of paid holiday and personal/vacation time, and an inspiring and innovative organizational culture. The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $95,000 annually. Compensation range is competitive and is commensurate based on experience.

Candidates are not required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, though vaccination is strongly recommended.
