The Director of Policy Administration leads the Medical Center’s policy and procedures adoption, management, and quality assurance processes. The Director of Policy Administration facilitates organizational standards for policy and procedures and fosters organizational compliance with policy and procedures standards through communication and education, implementation and management of the organizational policy system, departmental and division-wide support, coalition building, and continuous improvement. The Director of Policy Administration is an informed resource for policy-related regulatory and legal requirements and proactively adapts to changing requirements and organizational developments.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Leads the policy oversight function across the enterprise to ensure consistent, accessible, and high-quality policy and procedures processes. This includes leadership for policy and procedures governance and support to departmental and division-wide initiatives.
  • Supervises the policy coordinator and manages the organizational policy system. This includes implementation of the organizational policy system and supporting the policy coordinator in daily troubleshooting, training initiatives, and escalating and resolving challenges.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Manages resources associated with policy and procedures oversight and leads with cost efficiency. This includes having the authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write up, and administer performance evaluations.
  • Monitors relevant regulatory, legal, and other external developments and effectively empowers subject matter experts while moving stakeholders to appropriate action. This includes timely education and communications, coalition building, and prompt and comprehensive responses to regulatory, legal, and similar developments and issues related to policy and procedures, such as requests and needs arising from legal actions and regulatory matters.
  • Maintains and continuously improves upon organizational standards for policy and procedures processes and ensures clear and consistent communication of these standards. This includes standards for policy adoption, implementation, and revision. This also includes orienting and otherwise informing stakeholders and engaging in educational intervention in the case of noncompliance with or potential drift from policy and procedures standards.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to ensure knowledge of and active participation in policy quality assurance. This includes daily collaboration with control functions and operations and serving as a subject matter expert for policy and procedures at various organizational forums. This also includes ongoing quality control checks and iterative work throughout the organization to appropriately review, revise, and educate about policy and procedures.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Three or more years of progressive administrative experience in a medical setting required, including experience navigating, revising, and educating about policy and procedures. Two or more years of management experience preferred. Experience with a policy management system preferred.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must have the ability to effectively lead collaborative teams.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility while maintaining adequate focus on the organization's strategy and objectives as well as the requirements of external entities. Must be decisive and exercise good judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to establish priorities and to react promptly to a large variety of requests and needs, including in stressful situations and under deadline.
  • Certified Policy Management Pro (CPMP) or related certificate or the ability to earn such a certificate within the first year of employment.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians, medical center personnel, research leadership, and other stakeholders and to maintain a network of internal partners.
  • A graduate degree in a related field or an undergraduate degree with qualifying work experience at the discretion of the hiring leader.
