With over 650 student-athletes participating in UW's 22 sports programs, the department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing student-athletes with the ability to compete for national and conference championships while working toward a degree from one of the world's leading public research universities.
This position directs all strategy, planning, oversight, and execution of player development as directed by the Head Coach.
Responsibilities –
This position is responsible for the player development of approximately 115 football student-athletes each year. This person is in place to develop student-athletes beyond the years of playing sports and to prepare them with the information and life skills for the long range interests of the student-athletes. Serve as a mentor, advisor, and liaison to all players in the program. This will involve using the employee's professional skills and expertise as well as other affiliations and resources to provide training in establishing resumes, job interviewing, networking events, and acquiring professional skills that will help student-athletes in the professional world. This position will organize and oversee an internship program in accordance with NCAA rules. This includes building strategic alliances and nurturing relationships with community members, CEOs, and other leaders of major businesses and organizations in the community. Coordinate guest speakers to come talk to the team about issues and life skills outside of football.
Monitor all academic efforts on behalf of football and work in conjunction with the Student Athlete Academic Services staff. Serve as the primary liaison between SAAS and the football program. Coordinate registration, tutoring, holds, graduation plans, and other academic tasks for the players. Supervise all study table activities for the freshman class. Structure and oversee the class checking process for all players and assign duties to the staff. Create quarterly academic presentations and grade sheets for the Head Coach. Help direct the study abroad program.
Develop, plan, and implement an annual transition and onboarding plan for incoming freshman. Provide expertise and guidance for each student-athlete in the incoming freshman class in critical areas including: moving logistics, housing applications, dorm selections, roommate choices, medical physicals, player parking, immersion into the football program, the University of Washington, and the city of Seattle. Serve as point of contact for all freshman parents. The position will be the main administrator in football regarding planning, organizing, and oversight of the Summer Leap Program. Create a mentorship program pairing the incoming student-athletes with the upperclassmen. The head coach will rely on this person to advise him on all details regarding both Leap and issues with freshman player transitions.
Assist in planning, communications, and logistics for recruiting related events on and off campus including official visits, unofficial visits, junior days, game days, and summer camps. Act as a resource for the parents and families of prospective student-athletes. Provide information and conduct presentations based on our player development program (networking/internship opportunities, career placement after football, etc.).
Develop and organize a solid community outreach program for the football team. This requires developing relationships and partnerships with external organizations, alumni, and donors. It is important for this position to identify events and opportunities for student-athletes to volunteer and get involved in the local community, such as visiting local elementary schools and hospitals and attending bowl game events and speaking engagements.
Provide the head coach with current information relevant to the coach's speaking engagements, as well as be the spokesperson on behalf of the department, football program, and/or head coach. This person will need the professional skills to effectively represent the football program at events and among constituents.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in athletic operations/administration, development, academics/advising or other relevant field, particularly in a collegiate and/or professional football environment; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook. Professional communication skills, both verbal and written, and related work experience interacting with other high level professionals.
Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends, especially from August through December. Flexibility in scheduling vacation and other time off is a necessity as there are certain times of the year (August through January and April) that are labor-intensive.
