Why does the job exist?
To manage and direct health service operations in the Northwest Region. This position provides leadership for nurses and assigned personnel within a region; assists in the development and maintenance of standards, policies, procedures and on-going nursing staff development; monitors nursing and other assigned health services for quality and compliance in accordance state and federal regulations and participates in the Regional management team
How does it get done?
Collaborate with statewide nursing leadership to develop standards, policies and procedures for nursing personnel in the Division, including procedures for emergency response. Quality measurement and improvement plans for assigned health services personnel. Assurance of regional compliance and improvement plans for compliance in accordance with the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act, New Mexico Board of Pharmacy regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and other state and federal regulations. Develop methods to assure regional health services personnel are competent in their assigned duties. Assure professional development and regular evaluation of assigned health services personnel.

Ideal Candidate
All applicants for this position must be licensed in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act § 61-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16.12.1 through 16.12.20 NMAC, as applicable. Experience supervising, orienting and training new nursing staff and providing on-going training for established nursing staff. Assisting in chart audits and implementing performance improvement and quality management and quality improvement methods. Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures; Providing public health nursing services such as family planning, immunizations, STD, infectious disease and tuberculosis management; collaborating across varying organizations and writing procedures and statements of expected practices to implement policies.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver¿s License. Must process and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act), and successful completion of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act) trainings are required sixty days (60) of employment. Position will require Blood Borne Pathogen training and successful completion of (CPR course within thirty (30) days as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage with periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting. Work in clinics, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Services provided in clinics to a diverse racial and ethnic populations, many who do not speak the English language. Travel is required within the NW Region.
