Job Description
The Democratic Appropriations Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives seeks a Director of New Media Communications to join our team in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The House Democratic Appropriations Committee is committed to providing elected officials and the public with accurate, informed, and timely information about commonwealth policy and fiscal issues.
The Director of New Media Communications is a critical member of the team and supports the office by planning, organizing, and implementing digital strategies and content, including social media and e-mail. The successful candidate is creative, self-motivated, organized, and capable of developing an overall digital strategy and measuring success through proven benchmarks and analytics.

A successful candidate would:
Plan, develop and implement a digital communications strategy.
Utilize new media to reach new and targeted audiences.
Recommend areas of focus, methods, and metrics for success.
Identify and track notable and related policy based and community based social media accounts.
Manage social media and digital networks, providing consistently fresh and relevant concepts.
Create unique and imaginative graphics to complement written materials and be used on social media.
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
Experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or other related field
Conscientious, motivated, self-directed, and proactive with a willingness to take on additional projects
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle simultaneous priority projects and meet established deadlines
Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively and succinctly
Excellent writing and editing skills
Extreme attention to detail
Superior verbal and written communication abilities
Strong interpersonal and relationship building capacity and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
High level of professional ethics
Experience with digital media design and social media best practices, including newer social media platforms
Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and knowledge of other digital design platforms such as Canva
Knowledge of or experience with the legislative process a plus
