Job Description
Title: Director of Communications
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
2. Communications skills including interviewing, writing, and editing.
3. Eight to ten years of experience.
4. Good basic management skills.
5. Experience with computers, and knowledge about, graphic design and printing processes.
Essential Functions:
1. Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
2. Ability to effectively manage other individuals.
3. Ability to use a personal computer, telephone, photocopier and various other types of office equipment and software programs.
4. Ability to travel as needed, both locally and to more distant sites.
Reports To: Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel
Supervises: Communications Manager (one full-time employee)
Pennsylvania Lawyer/ PBA Web Editor (one full-time employee)
Senior Publications Editors (two full-time employee)
Publication Editor (one full-time employee and one contracted employee)
Position Summary: The Director of Communications has primary responsibility for the daily administration of the Communications Department.
Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to performing any duties that may be assigned by the Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel or the Executive Director, the Director of Communications is responsible for the following:
1. Administer the Communications Department including the assignment of projects and supervision of the work product. The individual must ensure that department staff members comply with PBA office policies and procedures.
2. Oversee editorial, advertising sales and production activities for the Pennsylvania Lawyers Directory, The Pennsylvania Lawyer, Pennsylvania Bar News, PBA e-brief, and the Pennsylvania Bar Quarterly.
3. Supervise use of social media platforms and periodically develop and post on PBA social media accounts as a backup.
4. Contribute to the development and implementation of the PBA marketing and public affairs program, that includes membership recruitment and promotion of PBA meetings, special events and member benefits and services.
5. Write selected articles and speeches and coordinate the completion of special projects as required.
6. Direct the advertising in PBA publications and digital content, which is supported by a part-time administrative employee reporting to the Membership Services Department.
7. Participate in the creation of digital video campaigns to promote PBA membership and various other PBA products as needed.
8. Propose and maintain department budget.
9. Staff the operation of the PBA Editorial Board and oversee activities of the Client and Community Relations Committee, Bar/Press Committee, Council on Judicial Independence and distribution of communications from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
10. Oversee Communications staff involvement in PBA Mass Disaster program.
11. Develop and maintain a general knowledge of PBA activities in an effort to provide exceptional customer service to all PBA members.

Evaluation: Performance evaluated annually by the Deputy Executive Director.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $81,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
