Job Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of the Piedmont Park Conservancy's marketing strategies, communications, website, and public relations activities, both external and internal. The Director of Marketing and Communications will drive Piedmont Park Conservancy awareness, brand building, digital response fundraising and constituent communications through a comprehensive multi-channel annual plan. The Director will work closely with a senior peer group within the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage brand elements of PPC materials (logo, letterhead, message guidelines, etc.)
  • Act as PPC's spokesperson with the media as necessary.
  • Direct PPC's desired brand position, assure consistent communication of position throughout the organization, and assure communication of position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
  • Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for marketing/communications.
  • Lead media outreach for PPC and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
  • Steer editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all PPC's printed collateral and digital communications.
  • Work with various agencies on PPC’s website, digital marketing, and public relations.
  • Serve as staff lead for all public input activities and reporting.
  • Serve as point of contact for all crisis communication activities.
  • Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates personnel, paid and volunteer
  • Develop sponsorship decks and strategy for corporate support of PPC programs and assets, in coordination with Development leadership
  • Direct PPC’s market research, marketing analytics and research data applications.
  • Responsible for a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the PPC’s reputation and position within the marketplace
  • Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Chief Development and Marketing Officer and Board.


QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must be able to perform some duties during non-traditional work hours (evenings and weekends) and limited travel as normal part of job responsibilities.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, sponsorships and public relations activities.
  • Proven experience managing staff and leading a team.
  • Demonstrated success writing press releases, making presentations, preparing sponsorship decks and negotiating with media.
  • Required past experience using digital content tools including website management, social media management platforms, email marketing and CRMs.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Experience in direct response/acquisition marketing is desired.
  • Demonstrated history of managing website redesign and branding projects.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
  • Experience managing budgets and employees.
  • Experience overseeing the brand assets and the production of collateral and digital media.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing and communications, including at the Director level, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Crisis communications experience a plus.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While Piedmont Park Conservancy operates onsite in midtown Atlanta, the Marketing and Development team works with a flexible hybrid schedule, with opportunities to work from home, based on department needs.Some night and weekend work as needed.
