Based in the City of Grand Rapids, MI, ArtPrize produces open, citywide, contemporary art experiences that encourage critical discourse, celebrate artists, transform urban space, and promote cultural understanding. ArtPrize has a history of awarding significant publicly voted and juried art prizes and is listed among the top art competitions in the world.


The mission of ArtPrize is to transform the art world through a radically open, global, art competition and cultural experience in Grand Rapids that starts conversation, encourages critical discourse, elevates and celebrates artists, transforms urban space and promotes cultural understanding.


Who You Are


As the Director Marketing and Communications you will be the strategic leader responsible for developing and executing the organization's brand strategies to advance its mission and drive engagement and attendance. You will work closely with the executive team and consulting agencies to develop and implement comprehensive marketing plans, including branding, public relations, social media, and digital marketing initiatives. Your role will involve working closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance and ensure a cohesive, outward-facing brand presence. You will also cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, donors, and partners to enhance the organization's visibility and promote its programs and services.


What You'll Do


  • Develop objective outreach campaigns to attract a regional and national media coverage during the ArtPrize event
  • Assess and implement a brand presence through special-content projects
  • Use your Bachelor's or Master's degree and exemplary work experience to plan and implement marketing and communication strategies to drive brand and event awareness
  • Plan and implement an objective social media and online presence throughout the year, with heavy content generation during the annual Artprize event
  • Develop event marketing and content strategies to grow audience engagement in both regional and national channels
  • Maintain media contact, IP license usage, and content databases
  • Work across all departments and verticals including executive management, development, events and exhibitions, education, and finance to drive outward facing brand awareness and organizational presence
  • Manage multiple third-party consultants including PR firms, web developers, contractors, and content creators in strategic and objective campaign and projects


Key Qualifications, Skills And Abilities


  • Energetic and personable; takes initiative and thinks creatively
  • Some local or regional travel to other locations for meetings or other business-related meetings
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work at a high-level
  • Minimum 5 years marketing and communications experience
  • Bachelor's degree in in marketing or business
  • Excellent and prompt written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and managerial skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with website and newsletter production and message development
  • Minimum 2 years in a management position
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully
  • Effective in managing timelines and project budgets
  • Nonprofit and/or large-scale event marketing experience
  • Strong computer skills In Word, Excel, WordPress, Adobe, Photoshop and design/ layout software, and database management experience
