Job Description

KLR Executive Search is proud to partner with Long’s Jewelers, a family-owned and operated jeweler with soon to be seven locations throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Long’s was founded in 1878 when Thomas Long, a Massachusetts native, opened his Boston-based jewelry business. Since then, Long’s has become the foundation of Boston’s fine jewelry and luxury timepiece market and has elevated to even higher standards of quality, value, and service.


The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the health and integrity of the Company’s financial soundness through a comprehensive set of controls and processes designed to track cash flow, POS transactions, and inventory while mitigating risk and enhancing accuracy. As part of Long’s executive team, the Director falls under the purview of Ownership, directing the management of day-to-day accounting operations in addition to focusing on budgeting, reporting, and input on the strategy to support the Company’s growth, profitability, and return on investment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor, and lead an established team, including Accounts Payable, Finance Manager, Inventory Control, Receiving, and Shipping.
  • Manage organizational cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, including monthly income statements and balance sheets. Analyze financial results as compared to monthly objectives and YOY results.
  • Lead annual financial audit and coordinate with audit firms to ensure that statutory audits are being performed timely and efficiently in compliance with existing credit agreements.
  • Supervise month, quarter, and year-end close process and ensure accurate and timely delivery of results, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Work with auditors and accountants on all quarterly and annual tax obligations of the company and any required paperwork to operate in a lawful manner.


Job Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the fine jewelry and luxury timepiece sector or similar retail environment preferred.
  • Proven experience working with an ERP system is required, Great Plains is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field and 10+ years of progressive Accounting/Finance experience, preferably with an independently owned and/or Family run organization.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of a POS system is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP standards, procedures, and practices, as well as current knowledge of new and existing tax laws and business regulations.
