As the Director of Facilities, you will be responsible for managing and directing multiple domestic and international facilities, security, and other functions that may vary by site. You will play a key role in the oversight of strategic infrastructure planning, construction, renovation, maintenance, facility services, engineering, safety, and security,


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Manage a support team of EH&S and facilities engineering where you demonstrate a player / coach / mentor leadership style.
  • Direct the installation, removal, and repair of facility related equipment.
  • Oversee EH&S operations, safety policy and procedures, and daily housekeeping.
  • Develop annual capital and operating plans.
  • Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, and staffing requirements.
  • Key contributor to planning and design of facility expansion and renovation.
  • Manager occupancy agreements, landlord communications, building contracts and leases.
  • Develop, control, and implement facility capital and operating expense plans, including facility utility schedules. Accountable for facility expense performance.
  • Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget. Approve budget and expenses of subordinates.
  • Contract with and direct all outside contractor services. Ensure conformance to standards and specifications, including project costs and construction schedules.
  • Develop and recommend departmental budget.
  • Oversee the development of a departmental plan for backup and succession of key departmental personnel.
  • Support special projects and requests from executive leadership.
  • Coordinate management and delivery of company-wide security and safety initiatives.
  • Direct facilities day-to-day operations to ensure that the facilities are managed at a high-quality standard, developing programs as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, senior management, and external partners to ensure that all requirements are understood and being met.
  • Direct the planning, response and recovery operations for emergency situations and disaster recovery and coordinate the development and implementation of associated response plans.
  • Develop and direct implementation of space utilization plans.
  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance and repair of 3+ facilities (US and Brazil).
  • Execute facility-related capital projects on time and on budget.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING US

  • Commercial real estate knowledge.
  • Knowledge and application of environmental, health and safety regulations and familiarity with EH&S regulatory agencies' protocols.
  • Multiple years of mechanical and/or industrial engineering is preferred, with a strong working knowledge of HVAC concepts for research facilities and commercial construction methods, procedures, and regulations.
  • Certification/Licensure: PE/engineering license preferred. CPE or CEM certificate a plus.
  • Solid understanding of BSL2 laboratory spaces.
  • 10+ years’ experience in project administration, purchasing, contracting and facilities management.
  • Industrial hygiene skills are preferred.
  • Demonstrated super user of a building management systems.
  • 5+ years previous supervisory experience.
  • Cross functional team interactions, influencing others.
  • Prior industry experience in large scale capital projects and facility management of biotechnology manufacturing.


WHERE YOU WILL WORK

  • San Jose, CA with occasional travel to our other facilities (~25% travel requirements)


WHAT YOUR EDUCATION LOOKS LIKE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in engineering, engineering science or related discipline. Master's degree (M.S./M.B.A.) preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $195,000 to 265,000 DOE.
