About the Role

You will be a critical early member of the team and responsible for leading the company’s electrolyzer technology development and scale-up. This role requires stem cell like capabilities that encompass doing anything needed to design, procure, build and operate the company’s core equipment and systems with a singular focus on achieving development and scale-up milestones. You will be expected to learn fast, growing with the company as it builds a team around you and expanding to new facilities and activities. The ability to self-organize, critically prioritize, and be proactive and team oriented are key attributes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and contribute to electrolyzer and test station design, procurement, build, and operation
• Develop and manage execution of a test plan collaboratively with CTO
• Lead in-house electrolyzer development and scale-up with singular focus toward major milestones
• Manage and help hire a team of chemical and mechanical engineers and technicians

What we’re looking for*

• Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
• Demonstrated success working in and/or leading highly effective technology development teams
• Wholistic engineering design approach with experience designing (CAD), selecting, procuring, and operating equipment, and/or leveraging those with such skills
• Effective communication abilities; strength in communicating complex concepts in an understandable form
• Experience with instrument communication and data acquisition (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Lab View)
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related engineering field
• Experience with pressurized and/or corrosive gas and liquids handling system design, operation, and optimization
• 5-10 years of experience in electrolyzer and/or fuel cell technology development, or other related field dealing with chemical, thermal and mechanical development of multiphase fluid flow systems with hard and soft materials
• Ability to role model high standards of professionalism

Extra-credit

• Experience with chemical process modeling including fluid and thermal management using ASPEN or equivalent
• Previous experience at a startup or other fast-paced R&D environment
