Job Description

Education Director will exhibit exceptional nursing and managerial skills that fosters, promotes and actualizes servant leadership philosophies and values with emotional intelligence practices. Education Director will develop new curricula and update current curricula that reflects evidenced based protocols across a range of disciplines at our facility. The education director must be committed to improving teaching practices through collaboration with staff, community members, rotational students in multiple disciplines. Using performance reviews and skills gap analyses to identify training needs per department, team and individual. Knowledgeable and up-to-date with pedagogical and adult learning theories and developments in education. An exceptional education director will have superb people skills and be confident in engaging individuals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines and be able to clearly communicate objectives. Coordination knowledge and development for New Employee Orientation (NEO), annual training for all TCID employees, and clinical education. Collaborates with State Competency Training & Development (CT&D) staff on required hospital/agency orientation and annual training for all TCID employees. Responsible for development and scheduling of NEO and annual training for all TCID employees. Education Director will be knowledgeable in Medical Practitioner, Nursing, and other discipline credentialing processes. Knowledgeable in Microsoft and Google platforms, simulation lab understanding, medical electronic and health records, and learning Management Systems (LMS). Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other accreditation or regulatory requirements. Provides flexibility to meet organizational education needs. Education Director will directly report to the Chief Nurse Executive.
Essential Job Functions
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
(5%) Demonstrates knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other accreditation or regulatory requirements.
(5%) May perform Nurse Supervisor (Patient Care Coordinator) and/or floor nurse duty occasionally.
(5%) Knowledgeable in credentialing of medical practitioners, nursing, and other clinical services. Responsible to ensure licenses and certifications are valid and renewed on time. Maintains complete training/education record on all TCID employees.
(5%) Demonstrates effective communication with staff of varying education levels. Demonstrates behavior in accordance with professional/ethical standards and serves as a positive role model for staff.
(5%) Collaborates with TCID Director of Quality Management to design and conduct educational interventions to address performance improvement and quality management gaps.
(5%) Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS); such as Lippincott.
(5%) Collaborates with TCID Director of Health Information Management to provide training and training materials for new and tenured staff with MediMar and AVATAR (EHR) software.
(5%) Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in hospital committees and activities. Collaborates with State Competency Training & Development (CT&D) staff on required hospital/agency orientation and annual training.
(10%) In-depth understanding of traditional and modern training methods (including workshops, simulations, e-learning and coaching).
(10%) Provides orientation and continuing education programs regarding care of the patient with tuberculosis for academic institutions sending students to observe or work at TCID in accordance with approved contracts.
(10%) Flexible in providing in-services and trainings at times convenient to shift employees. Expected to occasionally work hours other than normal shift to ensure all employees receive essential training. Ensures all required competency and training programs are completed by all staff members in a timely manner.
(10%) Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in developing and providing orientation and continuing education programs for adult licensed and unlicensed professionals. Responsible for assuring orientation, ongoing training and staff development, and competency assessments are completed as required for all TCID personnel.
(10%) Actively provide training to staff, oversee learning activities, curriculum and resources, and use performance reviews and skills gap analyses to identify training needs per department, team and individual.
(10%) Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

  • Ability to provide professional patient care and to teach and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Health Records), and Internet based databases (i.e., SharePoint, Teams) Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Skill in providing age-appropriate nursing care to young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to determine required staffing levels and to adjust as needed. Ability to plan and implement competency testing for nursing personnel.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, Medicare and state and federal regulations pertaining to health care and accreditation standards and criteria.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, including cultural, social, and economic forces which affect the health of families and communities.
  • Skill in performing CPR.
  • Ability to complete prescribed training program to gain work related competencies in the techniques and methods of treatment.
  • Knowledge required to provide age-appropriate care to young adults, adults, and geriatric individuals. Knowledge of human development.
  • Advanced knowledge in infection control practices and nosocomial infections.
  • Knowledge of/and ability to apply principles and practices in management, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations to groups. Ability to speak English and Spanish and to obtain translation services when needed to be able to communicate with patients in their preferred language.
  • Knowledge and skill in caring for individuals with TB, MDR TB and Hansen’s Disease patients and other medical-surgical conditions.
Registration Or Licensure Requirements
Must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure compact.

Has at least five years recent nursing experience.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (Required).
Certified Nurse Educator (Preferred).
Has 2 years of Training or Education experience (Preferred)

SALARY NOTE: The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum allowable by state law. Any employment offer is contingent upon available budgeted funds. The offered salary will be determined in accordance with budgetary limits and the requirements of HHSC Human Resources Manual Chapter 7.
