The City of New Rochelle is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Economic Development. This role will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth, improving workforce development, supporting minority and women-owned businesses, implementing downtown retail strategies, engaging with the community, and coordinating special community projects.
Skills needed for this role:
1. Economic Development Expertise: Strong knowledge of economic development principles, business attraction and retention strategies, workforce development, and downtown revitalization.
2. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills for engaging with stakeholders and building relationships.
3. Leadership and Management Abilities: Effective leadership skills to manage a team, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive results.
4. Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically, identify growth opportunities, and adapt strategies to changing economic conditions.
5. Project Management: Strong project management skills to coordinate and oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
6. Community Engagement: Ability to engage with the community, understand their needs, and involve them in decision-making processes.
7. Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis, market research, and making data-driven decisions.
8. Networking and Relationship Building: Skill in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, fostering partnerships, and attracting investment.
9. Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges and overcome obstacles to economic growth.
10. Knowledge of Local and Regional Economic Landscape: Familiarity with the local and regional economic context to develop targeted strategies aligned with community needs.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Planning or closely related field, AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Economic Development OR Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Planning or closely related field, AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Economic Development OR an Associates degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Planning or closely related field AND six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Economic Development.
This position is under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Development.
Must be Westchester County resident with preference to New Rochelle residents.
