Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced content strategist and creative force to lead our content team. Do you love crafting vibrant, imaginative content that makes websites sparkle? Are you a digital content whiz with strategic knowledge of UX, SEO, accessibility and web-writing best practices? Do you get a thrill building user-centric web pages in the CMS? We’d love to hear from you.
The Director of Content will develop and champion the vision for content at our agency. You’ll get to know our processes intimately, refine them, and come up with inspiring new ways to make content development run better, faster, stronger. You’ll work closely with strategists and creatives from other departments to find new ways to collaborate and innovate.
You’ll also get your hands dirty, working directly on client projects in a variety of fields from conservation non-profits to razor-sharp think tanks. You’ll lead content strategy from end-to-end, doing everything from running content audits to analyzing KPIs to developing brand messaging tactics. And you’ll write. A lot.
We’re looking for a true visionary who will bring fresh ideas and creative insights to our agency. You should be equal parts imaginative and strategic. You should be able to confidently lead a room full of clients and creatives and inspire them to achieve content nirvana.
Your Responsibilities As Director Of Content Include
Leading Content Strategy Projects
  • Advocate for and incorporate SEO, accessibility, style and web writing best practices
  • Create content resources such as creative briefs, message frameworks, audience personas and other key deliverables
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure content plans align with their goals and deadlines, plus create content schedules and manage on-time approvals for website content deliverables
  • Lead content strategy workshops that train clients on web writing best practices
  • Collaborate with a team of strategists, writers and designers to conceptualize innovative solutions to a variety of digital challenges
  • Perform exhaustive content audits that catalog and analyze every piece of content on our clients’ websites
  • Setup and work in content strategy platforms and other tools of the trade, such as Screaming Frog, GatherContent and others you’ll introduce to the agency
  • Oversee consistency in brand voice and adherence to style guides, such as AP Stylebook
  • Enter content in the CMS (we support Wordpress, Drupal, Sitecore and others) and assemble user-centric web pages that wow clients
Writing and Crafting Content
  • Write, review and edit web content for a variety of projects, working closely with clients to meet their organizations’ unique voices and needs
  • Work closely with designers and UX experts to outline wireframes and draft copy that begins to shape the content direction of our projects
  • Write internal marketing materials that promote our agency’s services and help us build our brand
  • Collaborate with other writers, and review and support each other’s work to create an engaging and innovative finished product
  • Conceptualize and author thought leadership pieces that position our agency as experts in the digital marketing space
Managing the Content Team
  • Drive agency thought leadership on emerging technology like AI to help clients understand how to incorporate it into their content processes and workflows
  • Lead short- and long-term content resourcing efforts by working with our operations team
  • Lead recruiting and retainment efforts to build a strong, smoothly running content team
  • Manage a cross-functional team of digital writers, content strategists and other creatives
  • Conduct monthly check-ins and annual performance reviews, and support your team’s career development
  • Shape and implement best practices that drive action, stoke passion and build brands
  • Participate in our leadership efforts and advocate for the content team
  • Review your team’s work to provide sharp and incisive feedback based on your experience in the field
  • Actively engage in new business efforts to increase the organization’s business and help prospective clients understand why quality content is a worthy investment
  • Advance our collaborative culture and develop new ways for the content team to collaborate across every corner of the company
Requirements
  • Experience working according to different style guides, such as AP Stylebook
  • Proven experience developing or deploying a range of brands through your content
  • Must include cover letter and strong portfolio/writing samples showcasing web articles or websites you have worked on in the past that have not been heavily edited
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience managing direct reports
  • Proficiency in SEO, accessibility and web writing best practices
  • Experience working with content management systems, such as WordPress, Drupal and/or Sitecore
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a content strategist or digital writer, with at least 5 years of experience leading client content projects
  • Interest in exploring AI technologies and policies for content
