The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days, and is subject to change.

Denver International Airport is seeking an experienced and energetic communications professional to drive internal and external communications functions and lead an incredible communications team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Communications, Marketing and Customer Service/Experience, this individual will be responsible for media relations, crisis communications, reputation management, executive communications and employee communications. We are looking for someone who is experienced in developing strategic communications plans and a cohesive multi-channel communications strategy and be an exceptional leader who will work closely with executives, peers and others within the organization.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Direct communications in crisis and emergency situations
  • Develop and set standards for communications success—develop and monitor metrics to measure the reach and impact of communications to identify areas of success and opportunity
  • Create and maintain relationships with key media to lead to increased visibility for DEN
  • Provide guidance on issues and opportunities to other divisions on opportunities to strengthen communications
  • Mentor and lead a team of six professionals to drive communications programs and events
  • Determine the best methods to target the right audience and disseminate messaging and communications (who, where and when) and execute on multi-media/channel content
  • Develop, implement and evaluate communication plans
  • Engage with senior leaders to develop effective messaging for executives as well as internal and external stakeholders and customers
  • Collaborate with the events team on events that involve executives, employees and media
  • Negotiates and administers contracts for communication-related products and services
  • Identify, write and edit a broad range of communications for internal and external audiences including speeches and talking points, newsletters, employee-related news and information, general messaging and responses to customers and more

About You
We are looking for candidates with all or some of the following experience:
  • A strong track record as an implementer who is able to manage multiple key initiatives concurrently
  • Able to work at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Experienced in crisis communication tactics
  • Self -starter and go-getter who works independently and enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Strong project management skills
  • A positive and engaging leader who is highly collaborative and experienced in developing and implementing communication strategies both internally and externally
  • Flexible and adaptable to be able to change gears based on project needs, executive requests and emergencies but must be organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Creative and strategic thinker
  • Technically advanced, especially in PowerPoint, Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint, and knowledgeable about the latest developments and techniques in communication.
  • Ability to prioritize and work quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Is able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and available to be on-call as neede
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience managing in the communications field (journalism, graphic design, marketing, development communications and/or public relations.) Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional and/or operational management.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
