Job Description
The Director of the Carlow Community Scholars Program will deliver support to students with a history in foster care and services designed to close retention and achievement gaps between Rising Scholars and other first-time college students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Manages business operations and financial resources. Develops and monitors budgets.
  • Generates and Coordinates complex funding streams including funds from the state, grants, gifts, endowments, and University funding. Allocates and accounts for student scholarships. Secures external funds to conduct research of best practices for student support.
  • Collaborates with campus administrators and community organizations to support recruitment, retention, and return; fund development and program sustainability.
  • Resolves personnel and operational issues. Develops and implements policies and procedures for the department.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Develops events and educational modules and advises the University community to implement inclusion policies and best practices to support students from foster care and those who have similar histories.
  • Collaborates with units to develop new programs and manages the Community Scholars’ coach training program.
  • Collaborates with national and state agencies, other universities, research institutes, community stakeholders and partner agencies to provide optimal programming and support to students with foster care histories.
  • Collects and evaluates data on population and program impact. Identifies and recommends areas of opportunity for programs.
  • Coordinates marketing and promotion for programs to increase enrollment of students in the University. Maintains contacts in recruitment databases and the program website.
  • Plans, executes, and directs all aspects of the Rising Scholars program.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution required.

MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Experience engaging donors and funding agencies required.
  • Must have previous supervisory/program management experience.
  • At least five years’ related experience required; eight years’ experience preferred.
  • Requires a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse population to enhance and further the mission of the University.
  • Must have experience working with at-risk youth, young adults and foster care systems.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant professional license or certification preferred.

ANALYTICAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Analytical skills are required to review program data and related information.
  • Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Access is expected.

  • Does not require handling or contact with or exposure to research animals.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time; Must be able to lift and carry program material; Must access computers and telephones, copy and fax machines and other general office equipment.
